Emmerdale has teased a new love triangle next week on the hit ITV soap, which is sure to cause drama.

Earlier this year, feisty new character Ella Forster, played by actress Paula Lane, made her village debut at the vets social, where she befriended Mandy Dingle and quit her PA role working for rude loud-mouthed managing director Jules.

Later in the week, Manpreet Sharma overheard Ella looking for a job and after realising she was a PA, offered her a position as a receptionist at the doctor’s. Next week sees Ella settle into working at the surgery and it’s not long until there’s chemistry with one character.

Wendy Posner detects a spark between Ella and doctor Liam Cavanagh but will the two decide to explore their connection? It comes as Liam, who is newly-divorced from Leyla Harding and previously had an affair with Wendy, recently had a romance with Chas Dingle. With a spark with Ella, could Liam’s exes be jealous and a potential love triangle be on the cards?

It was announced last year that actress Paula Lane would be joining Emmerdale as newcomer Ella Forster. A teaser read at the time: “Paula’s character is compassionate and caring Ella Forster. Ella soon finds herself out of a job when she sticks up for Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) who’s attending a Veterinary Ball with her partner Paddy.

“Far from a pushover, luck is soon to come Ella’s way when a chance encounter with Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker) opens up an opportunity. And it’s not long before Ella is turning heads in the village.”

Meanwhile, Paula, 37, who previously played Kylie Platt in Coronation Street, said of joining the ITV soap: “I’m so excited to be joining the cast of Emmerdale. Everyone has been so welcoming and I can’t wait to start a new chapter playing the role of Ella. I’ve already heard there are big plans for her and I can’t wait to see her navigate a new life in the village and hopefully make some friends!”

Elsewhere, producer Kate Brooks added: “Ella is a complex and multi-layered character who comes to the village and certainly makes an impact. Ostensibly she’s a good, moral character, but is there more to her than meets the eye? We are absolutely thrilled to welcome an actor of Paula’s calibre to the show and we can’t wait to have her light up our screens.”
