Emmerdale Dingle cancer twist as Chas returns and drops devastating family bombshell
Chas Dingle has recently been diagnosed with triple negative cancer and Emmerdale spoilers have revealed that she makes a heartbreaking family announcement next week
Emmerdale’s Chas Dingle shares a devastating announcement with her loved ones next week.
The Woolpack landlady, played by Lucy Pargeter, has recently been diagnosed with triple negative cancer just over a year after her mum Faith Dingle passed away after battling terminal breast cancer.
In upcoming scenes, Chas reveals to her family the cause of her cancer is the faulty BRCA2 gene and Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley), Caleb Milligan (Will Ash) and Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller) are blindsided to learn there’s a high likelihood they could have it too and are further rocked with the realisation they could pass it on to their children.
As Chas prepares to go see Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) for her birthday, she pushes her son Aaron to make an appointment for his gene test referral. He’s evasive and left uneasy at her unrelenting pressure. Overhearing conversations about the faulty BRCA2 gene from gossiping Dingles in The Woolpack, Ruby Fox-Milligan’s (Beth Cordingly)insistent Caleb tells her what it’s all about.
The Dingles look over as an argument brews and Chas wishes the ground would open up. Ruby and Caleb’s row soon escalates, and the commotion spurs Cain to intervene. Caleb tries to comply and move the argument outside, but Ruby is steadfast. The confrontation ends with a knee to the groin for Cain and shocked Dingles all round. Meanwhile, in the back room Chas is supported by her female friends and family as they talk about her cancer and how finding the lump early hopefully gives her the best chance.
Emmerdale is working with the charity Breast Cancer Now who are helping the production for this running storyline. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in the UK with one woman diagnosed every 10 minutes. Producer Kate Brooks, said of the storyline: “When this story was first pitched, we were acutely aware how important it was to explore this. With Chas’ family history of breast cancer and Chas being such a strong character, and in many ways the bedrock of the Dingles, we wanted to show the impact on not just her, but her immediate family.
“With Lucy Pargeter’s innate ability to showcase Chas’s vulnerabilities beneath her hardened exterior, we knew she was absolutely the right character to play this with.” Kate added: “We approached Breast Cancer Now as we wanted to depict this story in the most authentic way possible. Any light we can shed on this disease and encourage and remind people to routinely check their breasts can hopefully help lead to more positive outcomes.”
