Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) returned from her holiday in Thursday’s (February 29) episode of Emmerdale and had some unexpected news for Cain (Jeff Hordley), Aaron (Danny Miller) and Caleb Milligan (William Ash).

The beloved character departed the village a few weeks ago for some quality time with young Eve. Chas – who has breast cancer – explained to Paddy (Dominic Brunt) that she wanted to go on holiday with Eve to make some memories before her treatment begins.

Chas returned home tonight and decided to have a catchup with Aaron. He took the approach of not wanting to worry his mum and failed to tell her what’s been going on in the village.

However, when he popped to the loo and Liam (Jonny McPherson) arrived to see her, it wasn’t long until he was spilling the beans.

Chas put aside her annoyance over being kept in the dark because she had something important to ask Aaron.

She needed his help with getting Cain and Caleb in the same room as them, a difficult task considering Cain has barely looked at Caleb since his affair with Tracy (Amy Walsh) was revealed.

Fortunately, Aaron was successful in the task. The trio arrived at the pub and entered the back room, where Chas prepared herself to break some news.

Chas explained that while she was away, she had a test that confirmed she has the BRCA2 gene. The gene increases someone’s chance of getting certain types of cancer and because Chas’s mum Faith (Sally Dexter) had it, it means there’s a possibility Cain and Caleb will have it as well.

And due to the fact it can be inherited from a parent, it also means Aaron may receive a diagnosis in the future.

The news obviously shocked Caleb, Cain and Aaron. Chas explained they can receive counselling to help deal with the news, and it will also help to get tested to see if they actually have the faulty gene.

Caleb suggested they could all get tested together but Aaron seemed reluctant.

If he eventually agrees, how will the family cope if another Dingle learns they could get cancer?
