Danny Miller feared he would be written out of Emmerdale.

The actor, 33, returned to the role of Aaron Dingle in October 2023 after two years away from the village. His relationship with Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) was extremely damaged as Aaron blamed his mum for his sister Liv’s (Isobel Steele) death.

Chas was recently diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer, the same type that killed her mother Faith (Sally Dexter). She was forced to reveal to her family that they could also be carriers of the same faulty BRCA2 gene that she has.

Although he originally had no intention of getting tested, a heart-to-heart with Chas about her plans to get a double mastectomy changed Aaron’s mind. Next week, Cain (Jeff Hordley), Caleb (Will Ash) and Aaron prepare themselves as their results arrive.

After learning he’s inherited the faulty gene from his mum, Aaron can’t bring himself to tell the truth and lies that he’s also negative. Aaron feels even worse when he sees relieved Chas is when she hears the news.

In an exclusive chat with Daily Star and other press, Danny shared more about his reaction when he was told about the storyline. He said: “I honestly thought on no I’ve just moved to Leeds, please don’t kill me off.”

The I’m A Celebrity winner admitted he knew Aaron would be the person who ended up inheriting the gene. The soap star is unaware if writers are going to explore the storyline further, but said he would be interesting in bringing that story to life.

“It was very naïve of me to not think of breast cancer in males so it would be an interesting story to play,” the star explained. “I’ve always been interested in the stories that are untouched and untold.”
