The world of Emmerdale wasn’t entirely new to Beth Cordingly when she joined the soap as Ruby Fox-Milligan earlier this year. Her partner Ian Kelsey, whom she’s known for two decades, was previously in Emmerdale, playing Dave Glover from 1994 to 1996.

One of Dave’s biggest storylines was his affair with Kim Tate (Claire King) while she was married to Frank Tate (Norman Bowler).

Since leaving the Dales Ian has played villain Vinny Ashford in Coronation Street and had a three year stint in Doctors as practice manager Howard Bellamy.

Beth – who prior to joining Emmerdale had had roles in EastEnders and The Bill – has previously spoken of how supportive Ian was when she landed the part of Ruby.

‘There is that thing as an actor where you are always taken away from home, but he totally gets it. He knows a lot of the crew and cast and so it’s lovely to be able to share what I’ve been up to, knowing he understands.

‘That’s important when you are away and he is always keen to find out how filming has gone each day.’

Metro.co.uk recently chatted to Beth about how things are going at Emmerdale now she’s had time to settle in to the job.

‘Amazing,’ she enthused. ‘Everyone says it about Emmerdale but it is unbelievably friendly. It’s a really gorgeous place to work, it’s lovely. I’ve been so welcomed. It runs like a well-oiled machine. You just walk in the building and it’s always upbeat so it’s a lovely place to work. I’m really having a nice time.’

She was also full of praise for her soap ‘family,’ Lewis Cope and William Ash who play Nicky and Caleb.

‘They are both gorgeous, both lovely, brilliant actors. I get a bit sick of people saying “You’re so lucky to work with Will Ash” – but I am lucky to work with Will Ash!’

Beth told us that she loved playing Ruby and said, ‘She’s brilliant. She’s bonkers! It’s always fun to play someone a bit wild.’

As for whether Ian had given her any tips to help her when joining the show, Beth said he’d offered one very specific and practical piece of advice:

‘He told me not to bump into the furniture, which I do regularly!’
