Emmerdale is set for dramatic scenes next week as Aaron Dingle’s heartbreaking secret is exposed.

Soap fans will recall that Aaron’s mum Chas Dingle was recently diagnosed with triple-negative breast cancer with the ITV soap working with Breast Cancer Now for the emotional storyline. Chas’ diagnosis comes after her mother, Faith Dingle, tragically died in 2022 following her breast cancer battle.

Earlier this year, Chas revealed to her family that the cause of her cancer is the faulty BRCA2 gene. The bombshell left Chas’ brothers Cain and Caleb, as well as son Aaron, stunned as they learnt there’s a high likelihood they could have it and that it could have been passed onto their children.

Wanting to protect her family, Chas pushed her family members to make an appointment to be tested but the trio were left evasive and uneasy. However, after Chas pointed out that they could save the lives of the people they care about the most, as well as themselves, they appeared to have a slight change of heart.

Later, it was revealed that Cain and Caleb tested negative while Aaron realised he had inherited the faulty BRCA2 gene from his mum. However, instead of telling Chas the truth, Aaron lied and claimed that he tested negative for the faulty gene.

In upcoming scenes it’s tense between Liam Cavanagh and Aaron as the village doctor tries to cover the truth of Aaron’s real result in the gene test in the face of Chas’ probing questions. However, when Liam hurriedly exits, it leaves Chas deeply concerned as to what he’s implied.

Later, when Chas asks Aaron a direct question about the gene test, he betrays the truth through the briefest glance. Aaron goes from anger to denial as he struggles to process his emotions now that his mum knows the truth. It’s not long until Aaron makes clear to Liam that he’s crossed a line…

The next day, when Chas asks a visibly injured Liam if Aaron is to blame, Liam can’t help but reluctantly agreeing. Chas goes to confront Aaron immediately to which Liam desperately persuades her to rethink her actions, instead taking a different approach.

The two exes, who had a brief fling earlier this year, share a tender moment which is witnessed by Liam’s current love interest Ella Forster. After Chas sensitively approaches Aaron’s situation, the character opens up and confesses that the gene test result feels like a death sentence. When Aaron is able to open up about his fears to Chas, they both know he’s made a massive step forward, while Chas’ ex Paddy Kirk reminds Aaron he’ll always be there for him.
