Emmerdale spoilers – Rhona loses in court after horrifying display from Gus
Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) has the ordeal of a court appearance in upcoming Emmerdale episodes as she faces trial for kidnapping baby Ivy.
As viewers know, the baby was conceived using an embryo that Rhona and her former husband Gus Malcolms (Alan McKenna) had had frozen during their marriage. Gus attempted to use the embryos without Rhona’s permission so he and his wife Lucy could have a child.
Lucy tragically died soon after the birth and Rhona and her family found themselves caring for the new baby when Gus couldn’t cope because of his grief over his wife.
The bond that Rhona forged with the child – who is genetically hers – led her to take extreme action when Gus said he was taking his daughter and moving to France. Rhona absconded from the village with baby Ivy.
Zoe Henry told us what happens when the trial gets underway.
‘She’s not in the stand until last. I think Gus goes in first and he’s pretty vile about her, which she expected,’ she revealed.
Gus makes sure he twists the story to put Rhona in as bad a light as possible. ‘He really lays it on thick.
He’s the one who talks about the drug addiction,’ (Rhona became addicted to painkillers in the aftermath of being raped), ‘The kidnap and how she abandoned her other two kids. He couldn’t be more damning if he tried,’ Zoe said.
‘The interesting thing about this story is when everybody gets up and tells the truth, it is the truth but it’s quite damning. It doesn’t really matter how you try and sell what Rhona’s done, it’s pretty awful.’
In the wake of Gus’s vile words, by the time Rhona takes the stand she’s fired up and she’s soon lashing out at him – only later realising that her behaviour has played right into the picture that Gus has been trying to paint of her and will not have impressed the jury.
As the jury retires to deliberate, Rhona sees Gus’s smug expression and she’s shaken to the core as she realises she could be about to lose Ivy – and her freedom.
