Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Emma Atkins has spoken to Digital Spy about the possibility of Tom King being caught out by the Dingles.

Tom and his wife Belle are currently taking centre stage in an important storyline focusing on domestic abuse and coercive control.

Emma, who plays Charity Dingle, addressed the ongoing plot while chatting at an exclusive Inside Soap magazine photoshoot featuring three of the show’s most prominent stars.

Emma, Lucy Pargeter (Chas Dingle) and Lawrence Robb (Mackenzie Boyd) all took part in the fun shoot, giving them all a change in tone following their recent heavy storylines.

Digital Spy was granted exclusive video access to the photoshoot and chatted to each of the cast involved.

Speaking about fans’ hopes that the Dingles can help Belle, Emma commented: “I don’t think there’s anyone at home who’s watching that story and not screaming out at the TV because it’s so well done. It’s been so well scripted and played excellently by those two – Eden [Taylor-Draper, who plays Belle] and James [Chase, who plays Tom].

“I think at some point the Dingles will no doubt find out and then there’ll be extreme anger and upset – and support for Belle, because the Dingles always come together to rally round to support whoever’s in need.

“I think it’s going to be explosive eventually. And for now it’s watching it trickling out – it’s watching it play out. It’s brilliantly done but it’s painful to watch.”

Emma also discussed Charity’s own future after an unforgettable 12 months. Charity was shocked last year as she discovered that her husband Mackenzie had fathered a child with Chloe Harris, which sparked months of dramatic storylines.

Emma continued: “I think due to the fact that I’ve been on quite a rollercoaster over the past year – with the Chloe exposure of the baby and followed by the crash – I’ve been up to a lot really and it culminated in the PTSD storyline.

“For now, I think I’m on a bit of a leveller where things are a little bit quieter, which is quite good in my own head – just to have a bit of downtime. At the moment there’s nothing on the horizon but I assume it won’t be long until there will be again, hopefully!

“I’m currently just behind the bar – being cheeky as ever. And working with Kerry, which is awesome – because Laura [Norton]’s back from maternity. We always say ‘we can’t really work together’ because we’re always laughing! We have a lot of laughter together.”

Emma also addressed the question of whether Chloe will ever return following her sudden departure on Boxing Day.

Jessie Elland, who plays Chloe, left the soap late last year and has since announced plans to release her own novel in May 2025.

Emma said: “There’s always room for returning with the character of Chloe, down to the fact that Jessie was so awesome – a) to work with and b) to watch as an actor. She was just insane – so good, so strong.

“It’d be good if she returned but I know she’s got her own stuff going on at the moment with her writing and also acting, so we’ll see. I was sad to see her go and it was such a good dynamic with the three of us, and then the whole secret that blew up last summer.

“I miss her but I think she’s doing the right thing for now and there’s always that room for her to come back.”
