Emmerdale may have revealed which character in the village will work out Tom King’s vile behaviour on the ITV soap.

No one in the village has realised he is abusing his wife Belle Dingle, violently assaulting her this week after months of coercive control. Belle sparked concern with her family this week, after clashing with some of them amid her secret turmoil.

Fearing Tom’s behaviour, she hasn’t been herself and a chat with Lydia and Mandy left her uneasy and led to a showdown with Tom, where he attacked her. In the fallout she kicked him out, while he did return on Friday night.

He begged her for forgiveness claiming he was struggling and that he needed help, and that he would talk to someone professionally next week. He worked on guilt tripping her, claiming he’d had no food and had to sleep in his car, leaving him achey and in a bad way.

Trying to make her feel bad despite what he’d put her through, he claimed he would never hurt her, despite doing so, and that he didn’t mean to do it. He was also keen for her not to tell anyone what he’d done or what was going on as people grew concerned.

Eventually he wormed his way back in as she was confident he was sorry and would seek help. Viewers then saw him tearing up an invoice from a hotel that confirmed he’d spent the night at an expensive hotel and spa the night he was apparently sleeping in his vehicle.

Belle’s brother Cain Dingle seemed concerned though, and in two moments in the episode he appeared to suspect something was up. At the start he appeared to see Tom ushering Belle inside out of sight, and he pulled a face like he unsure about it.

Then after learning from Mandy that there had “been words” he was worried for his sister, and he confronted her and Tom in the street. While Belle kept quiet on what had happened and downplayed the situation, Cain didn’t seem sure as he stared at Tom and was pretty short with him.

Then as Belle and Tom went to leave he stopped them and asked them to go to his for dinner the next evening. As the pair agreed and walked off awkwardly, Cain appeared to pull a face as though he was keen to get to the bottom of the situation – so might Cain find out exactly what Tom has been up to in recent weeks, and will he be the one to stop Tom?
