There was some unwelcome news for Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) in Monday (June 10)’s Emmerdale, when she went to see nurse Wendy Posner (Susan Cookson) at the GP’s surgery and it was confirmed she was pregnant.

Belle’s abusive husband Tom King (James Chase) has made it very clear that having a baby with Belle is something he really wants, and this has overridden Belle’s own misgivings about it. She tried to take her own measures to avoid it happening by asking Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker) to send the prescription to the contraceptive pill separately from her other medication prescription.

Tom discovered a packet of pills in the kitchen drawer during a dinner party and afterwards he vented his anger at his wife, punching her in the stomach.

It was clear during the appointment that the pregnancy test she took only confirmed what she already knew. Belle looked absolutely defeated, and Wendy picked up on this and said she obviously wasn’t thrilled by the news.

When Belle asked about her options, Wendy gave her some information leaflets and asked how Tom would feel about the news. Belle said that Tom really wanted kids and added that they both do.

Wendy was still worried and asked Belle, ‘Is everything all right at home?’ Belle assured her that her and Tom were fine, and she just wanted to figure out how she felt about the pregnancy before she told him. Wendy suggested talking it through with him, or with somebody else, maybe a member of her family.

Previously Manpreet has shown concern for Belle after the appointment about the contraceptive pills, and Belle’s counsellor at the mental health assessment unit also got very close to uncovering that Belle is living in an abusive situation.

There’s a real hope that soon someone is going to put all the pieces together and realise the danger Belle is in.

Back at home Belle stuffed the leaflets Wendy had given her behind a cushion when she heard Tom coming in, where they’re sitting like an unexploded bomb like the pills in the kitchen drawer did.

Tom knew she’d been at the surgery because he tracks her every movement on an app, but she told him it was because of a stomach bug.

If he finds those leaflets he could totally lose his temper, and find a way to take Belle’s choice about what she does about the pregnancy away from her.

Could Wendy be the key to Belle finally getting free of this traumatic situation?
