Emmerdale icon’s village exit confirmed in emotional special episode of ITV soap
Emmerdale has confirmed that one of the stars will be leaving the village as vile Tom King's abuse of Belle Dingle continues to escalate on the long-running ITV soap
A fan-favourite from Emmerdale is set to wave goodbye to the iconic Dales.
In a twist that’s had viewers on the edge of their seats, Belle Dingle (played by Eden Taylor-Draper) has been embroiled in a harrowing domestic abuse plot with her new hubby Tom (portrayed by James Chase).
The pair, who were old flames, reignited their spark last year and quickly got hitched. But it’s been far from wedded bliss as Tom, son of the notorious Carl King, turned abusive towards Belle.
The situation took a dark turn when Tom found out Belle had an abortion after initially lying about having a miscarriage, sending him into a fury.
Now, it’s been spilled that the couple will be exiting the Dales for a very special episode on ITV. Soap boss Sophie Roper dished the dirt to Digital Spy, explaining how the Kings’ departure to Wales was actually filmed in Yorkshire.
She spilled: “We’ve got a special episode coming up that sees Tom and Belle head off to Wales on a trip away together. Actually, we recreated Wales in Yorkshire!
“Our fantastic design team [did it]. We’ve got a cottage up in the village, which we’ve re-dressed and made this beautiful Welsh retreat. So it’s really fantastic, the lengths they’ve gone to, to create that within our world.”
Sophie continued: “The story of course, though, set to the backdrop of this beautiful cottage will be really hard-hitting and difficult at moments. Tom is very much isolating Belle from her family, from her surroundings, from everything she knows and loves, which is very much unfortunately a typical trait of abusers and people who are trying to isolate their victim from their family.”
The soap has previously aired a special episode about Tom and Belle back in May. The episode followed the pair hosting a dinner party for Marlon and Rhona – but secrets were soon unearthed.
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
