Emmerdale has offered fans an update on Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles) following her unexpected departure from the village last year.

The legendary TV character, who made her debut in the ITV soap back in 1998, left the Dales in November of last year after wracking up a fraudulent debt.

Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) wasn’t too pleased about her sister’s exit plans and thus struck a deal, agreeing to let her abscond if she signed over her shares in the B&B to her.

Bernice subsequently left the village and things just haven’t been the same in Emmerdale without the devilishly chaotic character!

Despite her absence from our screens, however, it seems that Bernice has very much stayed true to her character, with Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) updating us on what her mum has been getting up to.

‘She’s falling in and out of love every five minutes!’, she said in Wednesday’s (October 23) offering of the long-running serial drama. ‘Causing carnage on the Costa’.

Never change, Bernice. Never change!

Gabby admitted that, despite their differences in the past, she does actually miss having Bernice in the village – and honestly same.

Discussing her reasons for leaving her signature role, star Samantha told us last year that she is looking forward to being able to be more creative and ‘spread her wings’.

‘I’m sad to be leaving colleagues and I loved getting my hair and make-up done every day, I shall miss that!,’ she said. ‘I am already missing that, just look at my hair!

‘The routine of going to work too; it takes a while to realise you have to create a whole new routine for yourself.

‘It’s great in some ways as it’s very liberating and creative, but then obviously one does miss not earning regular money too.

‘But I think it is not good to get too caught up in financial things, of course we all need to earn money, but if you are a creative person you have to feel you can spread your wings too and paint a different picture each day, rather than just the same painting day after day.’

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 or stream from 7am on ITVX.
