Caleb’s smug grin wiped off his face at long last in Emmerdale – but not by Ruby

Caleb Miligan (William Ash) has received a taste of his own medicine in Emmerdale after a trusted sidekick stabbed him in the back, which left his beloved scheme in tatters.

Literally.

The ruthless businessman, who never had many morals to begin with, has sunk to horrifying new lows this past year in a bid to build a new empire to rival that of Kim Tate’s (Claire King).

The centrepiece of his plot was Home James Haulage and therefore he set his sights on doing whatever it took to get his hands on the firm, hoping to get Jimmy King (Nick Miles) and Will Taylor (Dean Andrews) to sell up.

And it wasn’t just business where Caleb has proven ruthless, with recent scenes having seen him rob wife Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) of a final chance to make things right with dying mum Helen so that he could instead blackmail the matriarch into giving him 100k.

Such a nice guy is our Caleb…

Ruby, as you can imagine, was devastated when she made the discovery, ordering Caleb out of their home at Mill Cottage.

Caleb was keen to make things right as he paid her a visit at the Woolpack on Tuesday (October 22), spinning her a line about how he was simply trying to secure a future for them both.

Despite her devastation, Ruby ultimately forgave Caleb, who made clear that he was on the cusp of getting everything he ever wanted, with Will having successfully persuaded Jimmy to sign over the haulage company to the businessman.

Things, however, took an unexpected turn, with Jimmy shredding the contract instead, having been tipped off by someone who hates Caleb’s guts.

Caleb jumped to the wrong conclusion, believing Ruby had acted out in revenge, but upon accusing her of such a thing, Ruby was appalled.

It soon became apparent that it was Will.

Caleb was seething, demanding an explanation from Will, who made it clear that from here on out he was intent on being a better man – meaning that he’s dropping his vendetta against Kim and therefore he doesn’t need Caleb’s help any longer.

Caleb was outraged but will he be able to claw his way back to the top? Or is his life – both professional and personal – set to implode?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 or stream from 7am on ITVX.
