‘Doesn’t look good!’ EastEnders star breaks silence on rumours of soap exit
EastEnders star Jonny Freeman has broken his silence on rumours that he may be set to exit the BBC soap, after his character Reiss Colwell took drastic action in recent scenes.
Killer Reiss has been chasing his tail since smothering wife Debbie to death earlier this year, after he found himself unable to continue paying for her care.
Things took a devastating turn when Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) was arrested for Debbie’s murder, and her family have been desperate to prove her innocence.
No one has been more determined to see Sonia free than her sister Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer), which proved to be a problem for Reiss.
Bianca was instantly suspicious of Reiss, and recent scenes finally saw her get to the bottom of his involvement in Debbie’s death.
However, before she had the chance to do anything about it, Reiss took her hostage in a storage unit, where he vows to keep her until Sonia is freed from prison.
With Reiss taking increasingly desperate measures to keep his secret, fans are left wondering how long he has left in the show, and if he will be caught out.
Metro readers on TikTok questioned whether Jonny was leaving his role as Reiss, with one saying: ‘I think he’s leaving EastEnders probably gets killed by Bianca and Martin.’
A second picked up on Jonny’s use of past tense when talking about working with Patsy Palmer in an interview with Metro at the Inside Soap Awards, asking: ‘He said “it’s been” so does that mean he’s found out and going?’
Speaking to The Mirror, Jonny addressed the possibility of an exit, revealing that things aren’t looking good for Reiss.
‘He is under a huge amount of pressure but he firmly believes Sonia won’t go down for it, because she didn’t do it.
‘He has got the privilege of knowing that of course because he killed Debbie. He’s got the blinkers on but he’s holding out for the best.
‘We’ll have to see if there is a way out for him but it doesn’t look good.’
