Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper) has yet to experience the happily wedded bliss she was expecting after marrying Tom King (James Chase) in Emmerdale, thanks to his cruel, abusive behaviour.

Since they began dating, Tom has exhibited worrying behaviour, which has only got worse since their marriage.

In the short time since saying their vows, Tom has continued to gaslight, undermine and humiliate Belle in upsetting scenes.

Unfortunately, things are only set to get worse for her as she is left horrified by another unsavoury turn of events in upcoming episodes.

When Jimmy and Nicola King (Nick Miles and Nicola Wheeler) plan to visit daughter Angel (Rebecca Bakes), Tom and Belle offer to watch Carl and Elliot.

However, things don’t quite go to plan, and Belle soon finds her laptop completely destroyed by a spilt milkshake.

What’s worse is she has a proposal to finish, and it looks less and less likely that she’ll be able to complete it now that her laptop is broken.

This upsetting turn of events comes amid a new storyline in which Emmerdale is depicting Belle and Tom’s controlling and abusive marital relationship.

Emma Pickering, Head of Technology-Facilitated Abuse and Economic Empowerment at Refuge, said:

‘Refuge is pleased to have had the opportunity to work with the writers and producers of Emmerdale, to develop the storyline between Tom and Belle and show viewers the sad realities of domestic abuse.

‘The show will be exploring the multi-faceted and complex nature of domestic abuse, with various manifestations of abuse, including coercive control, emotional abuse,  physical abuse, and technology-facilitated abuse, all set to be displayed by Tom over the coming weeks.

‘The show will also highlight how abuse escalates over time, as well as some of the common tactics used by perpetrators such as isolation from family and friends, love bombing, and manipulation.’
