Taking to Instagram she posted a lengthy post about what happened to her.

Next to a series of pictures of her painful journey, plus her brilliant smile now, the soap star candidly wrote: “It’s taken me a while to share this, but I feel it’s time to open up about a deeply personal experience.

“Two and a half years ago, I underwent dental surgery that included losing all my top teeth, a consequence of the years I battled an eating disorder & a dentist who put crowns on top of rotting teeth without telling me…

“Many will remember I had the surgery for the implant bridge in July 16th 2022, but for any new followers I wanted to share & update.

“This journey has been challenging, & while I’ve spoken about it before, sharing this part of my story feels right at this time. I’m at peace with it.

“I hope to encourage others who may be facing similar struggles. Remember, it’s okay to seek help & take steps toward healing.

She ended the post with: “To anyone who’s struggling, you’re not alone.

“It’s okay to seek the help you deserve. Healing is a journey, & every small step counts.

“We must break the silence around these topics.”

Meanwhile, Gemma recently revealed how she was leaving her BBC Radio Humberside job, just months after starting it.

She penned: “What a joy it’s been to join [BBC Radio Humberside].

“My last show covering yesterday was a beaut experience.

“I started with BBC Humberside in May & can’t express how much this job has meant… no actually… means to me!

“This isn’t the end, it’s just the beginning.”

Gemma is best known for playing the role of Rachel Breckle in Emmerdale from 2011 to 2014.

She returned to the soap in early 2015, but departed once again by the end of that year.

In 2019, the character of Rachel was killed off-screen, therefore ruling out a future return for Gemma.

The star concluded her statement: “Because right now, all I can reflect on is what I’ve achieved, the people that have helped me achieve it and the gratitude I feel.

“Never give up on your dreams. Don’t let doubt rule you.

“You have more power and ability than you know.

“Give it a shot, please.”
