Violent Cain arrested in Emmerdale as Moira gets the most devastating news
It’s typical of Emmerdale’s Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) to go and do something awful, and then make everyone around him pay for it.
Cain is struggling under the weight of his betrayal, having slept with Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) while wife Moira (Natalie J Robb) was having brain surgery, but instead of facing up to it, he’s making everything ten times worse.
Long gone are the days he could behave like an animal and shrug it off. Cheating on Moira while having a tumour removed is probably one of the worst things Cain has ever done, and Cain most certainly can’t just walk away from this one.
‘It’s all there, every day, when we sees Moira, who’s obviously suffering with her illness. He’s feeling terribly guilty about what he did and the way he did it,’ actor Jeff Hordley tells Metro.
The crushing guilt becomes too much, and he tells her he has to go look at a car. This gives him the excuse to instead go and spend the night in his van. ‘He is trying to avoid any confrontation because he’s feeling so guilty about the situation and what he’s done,’ Jeff reveals.
Running away is his only solution. When he doesn’t come back, Moira is left fretting and confesses to Matty Barton (Ash Palmisciano) that she’s secretly trying to arrange a surprise birthday party for him.
But there’s a more pressing matter at hand the next day – Moira is due to get her pathology results and with Cain missing, she’s anxious she’ll have to go alone.
She tries to delay her appointment for as long as possible, but in the end, and after one last ditch attempt to get hold of Cain, she’s forced to go and receive her results without him.
This is yet another bad move for Cain, but there’s worse to come.
When he finally hears Moira’s anguished voicemail, he realises he must get to the hospital – but Jai Sharma (Chris Bisson) has blocked him in. Seeing the absolute red mist, Cain loses it and gets violent with Jai’s car.
His outburst has a devastating outcome as Jai calls the police and Cain is arrested. Now he’s going nowhere and Moira will definitely have to go alone. Once again his violent side has destroyed everything.
Jeff revealed that these are all signs that Cain isn’t coping at all.
‘He can’t handle the situation, so he’s masking it and trying to push it down somewhere else by drinking or avoiding situations,’ he says. A guilty man unable to control his emotions is a dangerous man indeed.
The gravity of his aggressive actions hits hard, and he appeals to PC Swirling’s compassionate nature that he needs to speak with his wife.
Swirling obliges and grants him a call. Cain makes contact with Moira, and he’s relieved to hear everything is fine. But when the call ends, it becomes obvious things are very far from ok – Moira confides in Matty that she needs radiotherapy.
He’s found by Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) who swiftly returns him home where Moira is furious. She blurts out about the surprise party and Cain is overcome with even more guilt. Enough is enough, he decides that though it might destroy his family, he has to come clean.
He steels himself to tell Moira the truth. Teasing the moment he’s about to come clean, Jeff adds: ‘There is this moment after Liam has taken him home from the allotment and he’s drunk that he’s about to confess, but can he go through with it?’
Is this where it ends for Moira and Cain?
