It was Angelica King (Rebecca Bakes)’s last full day at home with her family on Tuesday (March 12)’s Emmerdale. Tomorrow she’s due to be sentenced for causing the death of Heath Hope (Sebastian Dowling) by dangerous driving, and her family have been warned that it’s going to be a long custodial sentence in a secure children’s home.

Jimmy (Nick Miles) was finding things particularly hard and he had to go off on his own to the cafe, where Mandy (Lisa Riley) found him barely holding himself together. With some reassurance from Mandy he was a little bit more composed when Angel came looking for him.

She was with Cathy Hope (Gabrielle Dowling), Heath’s twin sister, who’d given her Heath’s hoody so she’d have something to remind her of him while she was away.

Angel was wearing the hoody and to demonstrate how she would cope if things got difficult in the secure unit she pulled the hood up to show how she’d use it to hide away from the world.

Then Bob (Tony Audenshaw) came in – and as he saw Angel, who had her back to him, he looked literally like he’d seen a ghost.

‘Is that?…’ he said, thinking for a second that somehow Heath was back and was standing in the cafe with his sister like nothing had happened.

Angel turned round and he realised it was her. Poor Bob could barely speak as he was overcome by such a mixture of emotions. Angel took the hoody off and gave it back to him, telling him how sorry she was for everything that had happened.

Jimmy misunderstood the whole thing and thought Bob had taken the hoody from Angel and went to confront him. Bob explained what had happened and said, ‘When I saw it, just for a second it looked like Heath and all these memories came flooding back. And memories are all I’ve got left of my son and I’m not ready to let them go just yet.’

For the first time since Bob discovered that Jimmy had known that it was Angel driving the car when Heath died and not Cathy, the two old friends put aside their anger and upset with each other as Jimmy faced the loss of Angel.

Bob reminded him to remember that Angelica is coming back. ‘This isn’t the end,’ he reminded him, saying that Jimmy needed to make the most of every last second he had with his daughter. ‘This time right now is more precious than anything.’

So Jimmy headed home with Bob’s wise words in his ears, armed with a takeaway and ready to enjoy an evening with his daughter while he still could.

And poor Bob was left clutching Heath’s hoody.
