EastEnders fans obsessed as show revisits beloved character after 15 years
EastEnders fans were full of nostalgia watching last night’s episode as Joe Swash reprised his role as Mickey Miller, and opened up about what the rest of his family are up to now.
Mickey made his debut back in 2003 and established himself as a comedy character known for his wheeling and dealing.
The following year, he was joined on the Square by his on-screen family, including mum Rosie (Gerry Cowper), stepdad Keith (David Spinx), and half-brother Darren (Charlie G. Hawkins) and half-sister Demi, who was played by Joe’s real-life sister Shana Swash.
Mickey’s elder sister Dawn Swann (Kara Tointon) was also a later addition.
During his time in Walford, Mickey was involved in various money-making schemes, often with fellow scammer Mo Harris (Laila Morse).
The much-loved character returned yesterday after hearing about the potential closure of Bridge Street market. Wanting to do his bit for the cause, he made a generous donation, which surprised old mates Mo, Martin (James Bye) and Stacey (Lacey Turner).
Mickey went onto reveal that he now runs a chain of BnBs called Miller’s Villas, proving himself to have been quite the success in business since leaving Walford.
As he opened up about his new life, he confirmed he’s now married and has three children, his mum does the laundry for the villa business, his dad helps out wherever possible, and Dawn works front of house.
It was the mention of Dawn that got EastEnders fans talking even more, as they couldn’t believe a character last seen in 2009 had been mentioned in 2024.
Taking to social media platform X, this user said: ‘We just need Dawn to come back now!’.
‘Omg Dawn mention #EastEnders’, another wrote online.
This excited audience member said: ‘I was never a big fan of Mickey but getting a DAWN SWANN mention in 2024 was worth seeing him for #EastEnders.’
Kara played Dawn from 2005-2009. She is mum to a young girl called Summer, and was also in a relationship with Jase, Jay Brown’s (Jamie Borthwick) dad.
Dawn and Summer left Walford with Garry Hobbs after her affair was revealed. Once Dawn told Garry that she’s in love with him, they departed together on a canal boat.
