Calvin’s Shocking Proposal to Laura: Is He Really Over Miranda?

You know, I was reading the comments on the video I posted yesterday about the sneak peek—which is actually for next week’s episode of House of Pain, not last night’s episode. In the clip, CJ and Calvin are watching the game, and you know, they both had something to say. CJ commented on what Jasmine was wearing to the club, and Calvin made a remark about what Miranda was wearing. It’s like, “Uh-uh, it’s none of your business!” What are you even talking about?

Then we find out the real reason Calvin was at CJ’s house. CJ calls him out, saying, “I know you didn’t really come over here to watch this boring game with me. We don’t even root for these teams. You just came to spy on Miranda, didn’t you?” And it turns out CJ is right. Despite Calvin getting closer and closer to his wedding day (Lord knows when that’ll actually happen—season 18 at this rate), he’s clearly still in love with Miranda. But the thing is, he also loves Laura. Calvin is going to have to make a decision, and fast.

Reading the comments, some people are saying he should go back to Miranda. Others are asking why he even agreed to marry Laura in the first place. To me, Calvin’s behavior mirrors what Miranda did in season nine (or was it ten? I forget). Remember the first season of the reboot? Miranda was keeping tabs on Calvin, showing up at Ella and Curtis’s place or even at CJ and Janine’s, just to see where he was and what he was doing. It’s like, “Girl, calm down! Don’t forget—you’re the one who filed for divorce.”

Then there’s Laura. When you think about how hastily she was introduced into the series, you can’t help but wonder if Calvin rushed into this relationship just to spite Miranda. Maybe he was so desperate to move on from the divorce that he jumped headfirst into a new serious relationship that would lead to marriage. But stretching this storyline out for so long doesn’t make much sense, especially since House of Pain doesn’t move in slow-motion time like The Oval or The Haves and the Have Nots. Time passes in this show—you can see it. Lisa was introduced, she got pregnant, and then she had her baby in the following season. Several months, if not a year or so, have clearly passed.

When it comes to Calvin, he seems like he’s trying to prove something—not just to himself, but to Miranda. It’s like he’s saying, “You wanted the divorce, now it’s final. You’re getting child support, we’re co-parenting, and there’s nothing you can do to get me back.” Maybe he feels like he’s won—he’s got a new girl, they’re about to get married, and his ex-wife seems to want him back. But now he’s having cold feet, and that’s on him.

Say what you will about Laura—she’s not my favorite character either—but it’s not fair to her. They’re getting closer to the wedding day, and her fiancé is still checking on his ex-wife behind her back. Let’s not forget that while engaged, Calvin had drunk sex with Miranda, something a lot of people conveniently overlook. Calvin’s behavior isn’t fair to Laura, no matter how opportunistic she may seem. While she may care about Calvin, he’s been flip-flopping since the engagement.

Cheating is cheating, but isn’t it worse to cheat on your fiancée than on a girlfriend or boyfriend? At this point, Calvin’s actions are signaling he’s not ready for marriage. And Laura doesn’t deserve to marry someone who can’t stay faithful after promising to spend their lives together.

Calvin rushed things with Laura, likely to prove a point to Miranda about moving on. But as the wedding day approaches, he’s realizing he’s not ready. It’s ironic because, after everything Calvin saw in his parents’ marriage, you’d think he’d want a stable and solid relationship instead of creating broken homes.

Let me know your thoughts in the comments below: Why is Calvin marrying Laura? Does he genuinely want to, or is this all about proving something to Miranda? And after everything he’s seen, will Calvin ever stop creating drama? House of Pain probably won’t cover the wedding this season. With just a few episodes left, I doubt we’ll see it before season 14. But let’s talk about Laura, Miranda, Calvin, and how this might all unfold. Will Calvin finally be honest with himself and these women? Catch you in the next video!
