Emmerdale: ‘work out’ Belle’s real mum in shock DNA twist – and she’s Dales icon
Emmerdale enthusiasts are convinced they’ve figured out the ‘true’ identity of Belle Dingle’s biological mother, and it’s not Lisa.
Belle (played by Eden Taylor-Draper), who was born on Christmas Day in 1998, is a cherished character on the soap. As the offspring of Zak (Steve Halliwell) and Lisa (Jane Cox), Belle has been central to numerous major storylines over the years.
Currently, she’s embroiled in a domestic abuse plotline that has been unfolding for the past year and a half. Audiences have watched in shock as her husband Tom King (James Chase) subjected Belle to psychological manipulation and control.
In one shocking episode, Belle defended herself against Tom with an axe. Initially hesitant, Belle eventually reported Tom to the police for his year-long abuse.
Although he initially evaded punishment, justice caught up with Tom in November. Despite being arrested and charged, Tom chose to flee the country, reports Leeds Live. However, he didn’t escape for long, as the police managed to locate him. Tom is now incarcerated, awaiting his trial set to occur later this month.
Furthermore, Belle’s mental health has deteriorated throughout this ordeal. But with Tom now behind bars, she’s resolved to do whatever it takes to ensure he’s convicted in court.
In a tantalizing plot twist that could shake Emmerdale to its core, some viewers have been speculating wildly that Belle’s mum might not be Lisa who tragically passed away in May 2019. They’ve taken to the internet with theories that Emmerdale icon Kim Tate (played by Claire King) could actually be Belle’s real mother.
On Reddit, one eagle-eyed fan speculated: “Is Kim Tate Belle’s mother. Lisa claimed she didn’t know she was pregnant so could she have been telling porkies that Belle is her daughter. She could be Kim Tate’s and perhaps Zak is her biological father but it could be anyone really.”
The theory has sparked a buzz among fans, with one highlighting the fact that viewers witnessed Lisa giving birth to Belle in a 1998 episode. Yet another fan dismissed this point, suggesting a potential plot-twist: “They could easily do an Easties and write in a baby swap storyline” – harking back to EastEnders ‘ own sensational baby swap drama from 2010. A third chimed in in agreement: “Stranger things have happened.”
Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
