Emmerdale spoilers follow from Friday’s episode (December 13), which is available to watch now on streaming service ITVX but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.
Emmerdale has aired a major turning point for Angelica King’s new story with evil Tom.
Angelica saw Tom’s true colours in Friday’s episode after being cruelly used by her deceitful cousin.
The troubled schoolgirl has become Tom’s last remaining ally in the village since he was arrested and charged for his abuse of wife Belle.
This week, Angelica followed some careful instructions from Tom’s solicitor Ollie and released a damning video online condemning her relative for his crimes.
The unusual tactic gave Ollie the opportunity to demand that the trial should be cancelled on the grounds of jury bias following Angelica’s video, which had gone viral.
Ollie insisted that Tom had to cover their tracks by cutting ties with Angelica so the video couldn’t be traced back to them.
Only too happy to oblige, Tom called Angelica from prison and pretended to feel hurt and betrayed by her actions.
In an abusive phone call, Tom ranted: “You vindictive little clown. Why would you lie like that? Spouting that filth, stuff that you know I didn’t do.
“We’re meant to be family, you and I, and suddenly you just start believing that trash that Belle is saying, even though she’s crazy.
“I thought I knew you, Angelica, but it turns out you’re just as crazy as she is. Don’t ever, ever contact me again.”
A devastated Angelica turned to her father Jimmy after realising her big mistake, telling him: “He’s a monster, dad. It’s all true.”
Tom and Ollie’s stunt ultimately came to nothing when the application to cancel the trial was rejected.
Still determined to avoid a prison sentence, Tom vowed to make another plan to stay in control.
Tom’s trial will take place next week, culminating in a special hour-long episode on Thursday (December 19) which includes real-life stories from survivors of domestic abuse.
Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
