Emmerdale legend ‘hurt and shocked’ as character is axed after 13 years: ‘I didn’t see it coming’
Emmerdale’s Daisy Campbell has revealed that she ‘couldn’t stop shaking’ upon learning that her character would be written out after 13 years.
The Amelia Spencer star’s final scenes will air on Friday (December 20), with her on-screen alter-ego deciding to leave the eponymous village for a new life in the wake of Tom King’s (James Chase) sentencing.
‘I left nearly 2 months ago and it feels crazy seeing it now,’ she said during an appearance on Lorraine on Friday.
‘I have parents coming around [to watch it] and we will pop some bubbly. I hate watching myself but I think there will be tears.’
The actress branded the past year a ‘difficult’ one, revealing that her unplanned exit from the long-running soap came as a shock.
‘I didn’t see this coming,’ she told host Ranvir Singh. It’s been a really tough year and I’ve had to do loads of work on myself and put myself first. But I definitely feel like now I am in a place where I’ve healed.
‘I definitely felt hurt. Taken aback really. Just shocked. I couldn’t stop shaking. But, you know, time’s passed and I put everything into the storyline because it was my last one.‘
Amelia, as viewers know, was targeted by controlling abuser Tom King, who was sentenced on Thursday (December 19) for abusing wife Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor-Draper).
Daisy, 21, previously addressed her exit from Emmerdale, confirming that it wasn’t her choice. ‘It was a shock at first’, she explained to the Mirror in October.
‘Being in Emmerdale is all I have ever known. I’ve spent the whole of my childhood growing up in the soap and it felt daunting.’
‘Once they explained, I totally got it’.
The 21-year-old, whose character was present when Tom got sent down, revealed that her favourite storyline during her stint on Emmerdale was Amelia becoming a mum to Esther.
The soap star also confirmed that she’s already filmed something else since wrapping on Emmerdale.
‘I didn’t expect to do anything else but filmed something a few weeks ago that is coming out next summer,’ she enthused. ‘I’ve been busy and didn’t expect it.’
Her final scenes in Emmerdale, which can be streamed now on ITVX, see Amelia decide it’s time to say goodbye to the village.
