Tom King’s (James Chase) recent attempts to control Belle Dingle (Eden Taylor Draper) have fallen flat in Emmerdale, so now he’s ready to up the ante.

He’s already emotionally manipulated her into changing her name, and he arranged their wedding without any of her input just because he could.

More recently, he attempted to sabotage her plans to get a job as he seemingly felt threatened by her independence.

But though she seemed easy to influence at first, Belle hasn’t yet lost her strong will and has been clinging onto her autonomy. Tom is ready to put a stop to that.

Tom unsuccessfully tried to bar her from working at Take A Vow, and he’s still reeling from her telling him no to being a stay at home wife and mum. So narcissist Tom crosses a new line.

He places a tracking app on Belle’s phone, so that now he can be aware of where she is at all times.

Next, he has a new plan to wreck her career plans. He comes home with a rescue puppy and tells his wife he expects her to give up her job and look after it. Belle is defiant once again – which is like a red rag to a narcissist bull.

Will Tom react with violence when she tells him no again?

Discussing this storyline, producer Laura Shaw said: ‘Soaps are in the extraordinary position of being able to highlight what happens behind the public face of an abusive relationship, over a longer period of time.

‘The audience knows these characters so well, sometimes as well as they might know their own friends and family and they care deeply about them.

‘As harrowing as it can be to watch this type of storyline play out, it’s imperative that we use our platform to shine a light on domestic abuse, and help give a voice to people who have so often been silenced.’
