Dancing on Ice star Charlie Brooks teases potential EastEnders return and shares love for role
Dancing on Ice star Charlie Brooks has opened up about the possibility of returning to EastEnders as her character Janine Butcher, having appeared on the BBC soap in four separate stints
Charlie Brooks, the actress best known for her role in EastEnders, has hinted at a potential return to the soap.
Speaking on the Spooning with Mark Wogan podcast, the Dancing on Ice star reminisced about her time on the show and suggested that fans might see her reprise her role in the future.
When asked if her character Janine could ever make a comeback, she cryptically replied: “I can never say it’s definitively closed, because I really enjoyed my time at EastEnders. It always feels like a bit of a home for me.”
She continued to express her affection for the show, saying: “I love the people there, I’ve made some really good friends over the years and and so, the beautiful thing about Janine is that you kind of always want to know what she’s up to so writers can really do anything and get away with it.”
Charlie has had four separate stints on BBC soap EastEnders, with her last appearance in 2022 when her character Janine was sentenced to five years in prison for perverting the course of justice.
When asked if there were any traits she’d like to borrow from Janine Butcher, she added: “I like to borrow sometimes from Janine. I wish I was as funny as her, she’s quite quick and she doesn’t give a f***, she sort of says what she thinks.”
As she prepares to join a star-studded cast in the latest series of Dancing on Ice, it’s not her first foray into reality TV, having placed 12th in I’m A Celebrity in 2012.
She first graced our screens as Janine Butcher in 1999 and played a key role in some of the soap’s most dramatic storylines over the years.
Despite taking breaks from the show, she last reprised her role as Janine in April 2021, only to leave again a year later. Beyond her acting career, Charlie is set to dazzle on the ice tonight as she competes against a slew of celebrities for the coveted top spot in this year’s Dancing on Ice.
With competitors including Anton Ferdinand, Ferne McCann, Michaela Strachan, Sam Aston and Steve Redgrave, Dancing on Ice airs tonight (January 12) on ITV at 6.30pm.
