Ella Forster’s (Paula Lane) future in Emmerdale has been upended by an article in the local newspaper, which named her and detailed her past.

The character, as viewers know, previously served time in prison for k.i.l.l.i.n.g her friend when she was just 11 years old.

The secret was unearthed last year, with Ella initially disowned by the villagers but ultimately she managed to win back their trust, proving that she had learned from her past.

But her life has now been turned upside down, with a newspaper having printed a cover story exposing her new identity and her troubled past in explicit detail.

Ella was devastated to learn of such a thing, knowing that she will now be in danger.

Despite having found a home with people she considered friends, the GP receptionist will likely be forced to move away and start all over again with a new identity, all thanks to this newspaper article.

Before she considers such a thing, however, Ella is determined to get to the bottom of who spoke to a journalist about her.

As viewers know, the culprit is none other than Wendy Posner (Susan Cookson), who is being blackmailed by the reporter.

It was claimed previously that Paula Lane will be leaving Emmerdale this year so it’s possible that this story development will play a role in her exit, as Ella will be faced with the prospect of departing the village and restarting her life again elsewhere.

But will she find out who talked to the press about her first?

Emmerdale airs weeknights at 7:30pm on ITV1 or stream from 7am on ITVX.
