The following article contains discussion of s.e.x.u.a.l misconduct.

Emmerdale has confirmed the results of the DNA test that Ruby Fox-Miligan organised to find out the paternity of her daughter Steph.

The truth was revealed in Wednesday’s episode as Ruby’s husband Caleb made a surprising discovery in his wife’s handbag.

Emmerdale has recently revealed that Ruby was sexually abused by her father Anthony when she was a teenager.

Ruby fears that Anthony could be the biological father of her daughter Steph, so she recently arranged a DNA test to see whether the results ruled out Caleb or not.

In Wednesday’s episode, Caleb searched through Ruby’s handbag looking for painkillers but accidentally stumbled across the test results.

Ruby hadn’t read them for herself yet, but she was forced to face the truth when Caleb confronted her.

As the result sank in, Caleb asked: “When were you going to tell me? Are you trying to figure a way out of it, tell me it’s not what I think it is?

“DNA test results don’t lie. You’ve been lying to me for years. Steph’s not mine. 0% probability of paternity.”

Although the test had only focused on Caleb, the result effectively confirms that Anthony is Steph’s father as there were only two possibilities.

Ruby was devastated as Caleb – unaware of the reality of the situation – mistakenly accused her of cheating on him and covering up the truth for decades.

The couple’s relationship ultimately hit the rocks as Ruby felt unable to break her silence over Anthony’s abuse.

Caleb ordered Ruby to leave Mill Cottage and later told Steph that their marriage had fallen apart for good this time, although he decided not to reveal why.

Emmerdale bosses have already revealed that Anthony’s crimes won’t stay hidden for long, as the truth is exposed in upcoming episodes.

This paves the way for a dramatic new whodunit storyline as someone takes the ultimate revenge against Anthony.

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
