Emmerdale has hinted at a tragic twist, suggesting that a beloved character may be written out of the show.

Marlon Dingle, portrayed by Mark Charnock, has been a fixture in the soap since 1996. As Albert Dingle’s (Bobby Knutt) son and the Woolpack’s resident chef, Marlon has won over fans’ hearts.

Over the years, Marlon has been central to numerous dramatic storylines – from an unexpected prison sentence to suffering a stroke, his life in the village has been anything but quiet.

The drama continues to unfold, as on Christmas Day, Marlon’s daughter April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan) mysteriously disappeared. The last sighting of the teenager was her getting into an unfamiliar car driven by an unknown person.

April’s vanishing act followed a tumultuous period in the Dales, during which she discovered the truth about her mother Donna’s (Verity Rushworth) d.e.a.t.h in 2014. This led to April spiralling into alcohol and d.r.u.g use and having heated arguments with her father Marlon (Mark Charnock), before she went missing, reports Leeds Live.

Since then, a distraught Marlon has been on a mission to find April, with the entire village rallying behind him.

In a recent development, CCTV footage showing a potential sighting of April running across a street in Leeds was shared with her family. Marlon promptly headed to Leeds to distribute leaflets about April.

In Wednesday’s episode (January 15), Marlon, accompanied by Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy), continued his search for April.

Fans of the soap have been left concerned after noticing Marlon’s persistent coughing. Even his on-screen partner, Rhona Goskirk, played by Zoe Henry, voiced her worries, saying: “Marlon, you’re no use to anyone if you’re poorly, you have to take care of yourself.”

Speculation is rife among viewers that this could be a hint at Marlon’s impending doom. On an Emmerdale fan page on Facebook, one viewer pointed out: “Did anyone else notice Marlon coughing?” This sparked a flurry of responses with fans commenting: “Yes it’s worrying!” and another adding: “Foreshadowing his death I think.”

The theories didn’t stop there, with another fan suggesting: “You could be onto something but I really hope not!” Another speculated about the potential health implications: “All the stress from April could trigger a heart attack or something?” Meanwhile, another post hinted at a possible plot development: “The shouting has given Marlon a bad cough now, pneumonia storyline coming soon for Marlon.”
