Jamie Borthwick makes shock EastEnders confession about Cindy Beale attack and live 40th anniversary episode
The actor - who has been in the soap since he was 12 - has lifted the lid on his insider knowledge about the soap's 40th anniversary plans
EASTENDERS star Jamie Borthwick has confessed he has NO idea who attacked Cindy Beale – and his future on the soap’s live 40th anniversary is in doubt.
The 30-year-old admits he doesn’t yet know whether he’ll appear in the highly-anticipated live episode on February 19.
He also told The Sun at the Strictly Live tour launch that he was kept in the dark about the Christmas whodunit storyline.
Asked if he knows the identity of the mystery attacker who whacked controversial Cindy around the head with a shovel on Christmas Day, Jamie said: “I don’t know.”
“I said that I did, but I don’t.
“They’ve kept that very under wraps.
“All over Christmas it was brilliant, but I wasn’t really a part of it because I was obviously away, but the episodes were fantastic.”
He’s now on a nationwide tour with Strictly Come Dancing as he once again competes for the glitterball trophy.
Jamie and his dance partner Michelle Tsiakkas are one of seven couples performing 30 shows over the next three weeks.
They’re joined by Montell Douglas and Kai Widdrington, Wynne Evans and Katya Jones, Tasha Ghouri and Aljaž Škorjanec, JB Gill, Amy Dowden and Lauren Oakley, Sarah Hadland and Vito Coppola; Shayne Ward and Nancy Xu.
Then less than two weeks later, EastEnders will celebrate its 40th anniversary with a live episode.
Executive Producer Chris Clenshaw said: “Whilst we’re still keeping the finite details of the 40th close to our chest, I can promise that it will be an unmissable week full of shocking twists that will change Albert Square, and the lives of those who live in it, forever.”
While the prospect of performing live may be daunting for some, Jamie says his experience on Strictly Come Dancing has successfully helped him prepare.
“I don’t know if I’m in the live episode yet,” Jamie told us.
“If I was to be in it, I’d be like ‘oh, are we live?’ I wouldn’t even really notice. Do you know what I mean?
“Before Strictly it would have been such a big deal because it’s something I wasn’t that comfortable with doing in front of millions of people.
“Now, if I can do something I’m comfortable with in front of millions of people, it would seem a walk in the park. Yeah. I’ve got a feel for that.”
- Strictly Come Dancing Live Tour opens in Birmingham on Friday, January 17, for the first night of 30 shows across the UK.
