Emmerdale spoilers follow.

Emmerdale star Eden Taylor-Draper has revealed emotional scenes to come for Belle Dingle as she reads a letter from her late mother Lisa on her wedding day.

Scenes airing next week will see Belle and Tom King tie the knot, though Tom’s controlling behaviour causes issues beforehand – notably over Belle’s desire to not take his surname, which he pressures her into taking.

Belle also struggles over the fact that neither of her parents will be at her wedding, as her mother passed away in 2019, while father Zak is in Scotland with a hurt back and so cannot travel (actor Steve Halliwell passed away last year).

“Belle finds this out pretty last minute, that Zak is definitely not going to be there,” Eden explained. “And has a freak-out and says, ‘Let us call the wedding off’.

“Obviously his attendance means so much to her, but then Tom explains that his parents aren’t there either so he says, ‘Let us focus on us – this is about our day and how they are all there in spirit’. So in the end, she is fine with it but obviously it is a huge deal for her.”

The wedding goes ahead, and Sam gives Belle a moving letter from her late mother that the bride decides to open at the end of the day.

“I don’t want to say what the letter says, but Belle is given it just as she is going into the church,” Eden revealed.

“Sam arrives for her wedding just in the nick of time as he has been to visit Zak. Zak has given Sam a letter to give Belle. Her mum Lisa wrote it before she passed away to open on the day she got married.

“When Belle gets the letter, she gets upset as it is too emotional and she thinks, ‘I can’t read this now, it’s too much’. So Belle ends up reading it right at the end of the day. All day she has had it stuffed into her wedding bouquet, keeping it safe to read later.

“The letter is beautiful and so emotional and I can’t imagine receiving something like that – something so precious that had been kept safely for that special day,” she added. “It is such a precious moment and so emotional that someone would do that.”

Asked what Belle’s parents would make of Tom, the actress further mused: “Based on all of the good things in Tom, Zak loves him and thinks he is great for her. And I think Lisa would love him too.

“All the Dingles seem to like him but of course they haven’t seen that other side of Tom when he tries to control things. The audience saw it when we did the 12 Angry Dingles. So to the Dingles, he is a great guy.”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX.
