Why did Amit kill Rishi on Emmerdale, and how did he die as secret ‘exposed’ on ITV soap?

Emmerdale’s Amit Sharma faces being exposed this week, that’s if he doesn’t claim his next victim.

There are fears he could strike again and cause the death of another character, after major hints he killed his own brother Rishi Sharma last year. While his family know he was there when Rishi died, they believe it was all a tragic accident.

But Amit has heavily hinted he is not to be messed with, seemingly suggesting too that he intentionally killed his brother. Amit only arrived in the village late last year, months on from Rishi being killed off in the summer.

Rishi had been on the show for over a decade before his sad and unexpected death, amid son Jai learning his biological father was Amit. It wasn’t for months though that Amit’s guilt came to light, but how did Rishi die and why did Amit kill him?

Rishi had been found dead at the bottom of the stairs of his home, with it believed he had slipped and fallen and died instantly. So when Amit confessed he was in the village the day Rishi died, it wasn’t long before his son Suni realised he was there when the moment happened.

Amit claimed Rishi had fallen during a row with his brother, thought to be about Jai’s paternity. Amit then fled the scene in a panic after realising his brother was dead, knowing how it would look.

Amit did not return until weeks later, and kept his visit to the village under wraps. Once exposed he had a tough time convincing Jai that Rishi’s death was an accident, while viewers now know this was probably not the case.

In a recent conversation with his solicitor Bill, Amit and Bill alluded to the convenience that Rishi had died around the same time he and Amit were set to come into some inheritance. The death of an uncle meant both brothers were set to get thousands of pounds left for them, and this seemed to be why Amit headed to see his sibling.

Amit claimed it was a tragedy that Rishi died the way he did, but that it was a win for him as it meant all the inheritance money went to him alone, which he has yet to reveal to Suni or Jai. Amit was seen smirking when talk of his brother’s sudden and apparently accidental death came up, with it obvious to viewers that he had played a bigger part in the demise than he had let on.
