Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise is set to return to BBC One later this month and will see a new Detective Inspector in place as DI Mervin Wilson, played by Don Gilet, gets to work
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ In Paradise has released a first look at the much-anticipated new series. The BBC One detective show is set to return this month with Don Gilet joining as the new Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson.
Fans met Mervin during the Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise Christmas special, in which his journey to the Caribbean to meet his mother for the first time ended in typical fashion for the show – not quite as expected. With the ‘who shot the Santas?’ mystery solved, and after learning of his estranged mother’s Dᴇᴀᴛʜ , he plans to leave the island – until a new trailer teases complications with a voiceover stating: “There may be a new detective in town… but it’s business as usual in paradise! ”
A dramatic revelation comes with Mervin’s line: “My mother, I don’t think her Dᴇᴀᴛʜ was an accident.” The synopsis hints that as Mervin learns more about his mother’s life in Saint Marie, he discovers unsettling truths, leaving viewers to wonder if his life on the island will ever be the same.
EastEnders star Don, 58, is all set to intrigue audiences as the new detective Mervin in the upcoming episodes. Discussing his role, he revealed: “Mervin must learn to deal with his mother’s Dᴇᴀᴛʜ . He constantly goes from trying to move on to trying to figure it out exactly what might have happened again, if anything at all. Then he’s also got these cases to solve on a regular basis, he’s got his job to do.”
Intriguingly, he adds: “It’s great how the story has been written and unravels. There’s a possibility that there might have been some suspicious circumstances related to her Dᴇᴀᴛʜ , but we don’t know for sure. The question is can he juggle the personal with the professional? Can he get the job done or will it become too much for him? “
The narrative shift follows Ralf Little’s departure as Neville Parker from Dᴇᴀᴛʜ In Paradise, after the character decided to go travelling, reports the Express. Now, with Mervin at the helm, there’s a fresh dynamic at play.
