The relationship between Caleb Milligan (William Ash) and his wife Ruby Fox-Miligan (Beth Cordingly) in Emmerdale is a complex one. Although there’s an irresistible attraction between them and a deep love which has persisted since they were very young, it’s become clear that they’ve been through more than one very rocky patch in the past.

When Caleb first arrived in the village he led everyone to believe that his marriage was over and it wasn’t long before he was pursuing relationships with Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi) and then Tracy Robinson (Amy Walsh).

As soon as Ruby swept into Emmerdale all of that changed. She was there to reclaim her place in his life and she didn’t care who she hurt in the process.

Tracy and Nate (Jurell Carter) were soon humiliated when Ruby announced their affair in the middle of a family wedding. Other family members have felt the full force of Ruby’s acid tongue and – in Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley)’s case – her knee.

At the heart of all this is huge insecurity, as Ruby feels that the Dingles are competition for Caleb’s love. We’ve seen recently that Ruby gave up a lot for Caleb, turning her back on her own family to be with him.

She can’t see why he won’t do the same for her. Caleb seemed to finally grasp this and agreed to leave the village and devote himself to Ruby.

However, in upcoming episodes a conversation with his sister Chas (Lucy Pargeter) makes Caleb realise what he would be losing if he was to leave the Dales and he changes his mind about leaving.

He’s welcomed back into the Dingle family fold in the Woolpack, but things turn sour fairly quickly when Ruby flounces in looking for a fight.

She’s soon at odds with Caleb’s family the Dingles as a huge argument breaks out and in the middle of the mayhem Ruby accidentally elbows Chas in the chest.

Chas has, of course recently had a double mastectomy and she doubles up in pain from the blow. Ruby’s devastated by what she’s done, but more devastated when Caleb sides with the Dingles against her and publicly rejects her.

Banished from the family, Ruby is left sitting outside the Woolpack on her own, inconsolable – while Caleb seethes with rage about her latest act.

Can Ruby convince Caleb that she hurt Chas by accident? Or is this the final straw for their relationship?
