Dwayne Myers’ absence from D.e.a.t.h in Paradise explained as fans question his whereabouts
Fans of the BBC detective drama D.e.a.t.h in Paradise were thrilled to see a familiar face return in the last series

Dwayne Myers, played by Danny John-Jules, made a highly-anticipated return to the BBC’s D.e.a.t.h In Paradise, sparking hopes among fans that he may be back for good. The beloved character’s comeback in the previous series was met with excitement from viewers, who were delighted to see him again.
Dwayne’s return in the Christmas special, alongside new detective DI Mervin Wilson, was a welcome surprise, and his plans to spend the festive season with his father Nelson, who had also returned to the island, added to the excitement. As the Christmas special drew to a close, Nelson suggested a fishing trip the next day, prompting Dwayne to reveal: “Just to let you know that we are going to be having quite a few more days like that ahead of us in the future.
“I’ve already told the Commissioner. I’ve officially told him that I’m going to be handing my badge in. I’ve just realised that there are far more important things that I need to be doing in my life right now.”
With Dwayne having decided to leave the police force, it is unlikely that he will appear in the new series, which will see DI Mervin Wilson navigate his temporary role, reports the Mirror.
“I used to annoy everyone because I could speak the local language. The mayor went crazy because when she first spoke to me, I was speaking in English, and so she couldn’t understand how I was born in England but could speak Creole. She nearly fell over!”
In the Christmas special, Dwayne found himself spending the holidays without his dad due to a twist involving witness protection.
Reflecting on his character’s journey, he shared: “Dwayne is a bit of a changed man and he’s all about family these days. Whereas before he was very self-centred, chasing women three times an episode and so on.
“And then, he got his heart broken by the girl that tamed him. Everybody goes back home to Mummy and Daddy after that, don’t they? He’s Dwayne. He’s human. Let’s just say that the plans that he and Nelson had for this Christmas, don’t exactly go to plan.”
The programme is filmed in Guadeloupe in the Caribbean and is now into its fourteenth series.
