Tyler Perry’s Zatima | Zac Doesn’t Want To Know If Fatima Gets Attacked In The Future
Okay, folks, in my opinion, this is possibly the worst scene of Zatima Season 3. It takes place in the restroom of Zach and Fatima’s home, towards the beginning of Episode 16. This was the scene that really set me off and made me think, You know what? I might just close the book on this show because this is ridiculous.
Zach and Fatima have a stand-up, sit-down moment—literally. Fatima is sitting on the toilet because she’s over it, while Zach is trying to discuss the situation of her leaving him in jail.
I’ve already made a couple of other videos about Episode 17—one covering their conversation in bed and another about the dinner table scene earlier in the episode. I wanted to break down specific Zatima Season 3 scenes that didn’t sit right with me, so if you want to join the journey, I’d appreciate it if you hit the thumbs-up button, subscribe, and turn on notifications.
Now, without further ado, let’s jump in.
This scene stretched for about six to seven minutes, so I can only play a short clip of it. However, I took thorough notes on everything that was discussed.
To set the scene: This happens after Zach attacked Malachi. Fatima eventually came home and found the two of them resetting the table. She went upstairs, while Zach, fresh out of the shower, greeted her:
Zach: “Hello. Hey, surprised to see me?”
Fatima: (Rolls her eyes)
Zach quickly realizes that Fatima already knew Jeremiah was alive.
Zach: “You knew Jeremiah was alive?”
Fatima: “Yeah, I knew yesterday when you called me.”
Zach: “But you didn’t get me out of jail?”
Fatima: “I don’t want to talk about it right now.”
And this is where I instantly thought about all the times Zach called Fatima out for being hypocritical. When she wants to talk about something, he has to drop everything and listen. But when he needs to talk, it has to be on her schedule.
Fatima tries to walk away, heading into the restroom. Zach, determined to talk, comedically hops onto the bed, runs across it, and follows her inside. Fatima doesn’t want their guests downstairs to overhear the argument.
Zach: “I want to talk.”
Fatima: “Well, don’t.”
Zach: “How about this? I talk, and you listen.”
Fatima: “Do I have to?”
Zach: “No.”
(Fatima rolls her eyes, annoyed.)
Now, here’s where things take a weird turn. The difference in how these two communicate is stark. When Fatima is upset and Zach doesn’t want to hear it, she will yell until he has no choice but to listen. However, when the roles are reversed, Fatima dismisses him.
And then, out of nowhere, Zach suddenly agrees with her.
Zach: “You were right. I should have listened. I should have never attacked Jeremiah.”
Fatima: “Wow, really?”
I was shocked. This sudden heel turn from Zach made no sense. Just a few minutes ago, he was furious. Now, he’s calm and admitting fault? Where did all his anger go?
I talked about this before—maybe Zach’s anger disappeared the moment he walked in and saw Fatima with another guy, thinking she was cheating. When he realized the truth, he tossed Jeremiah across the floor, confusion settled in, and then he calmed down.
But still, the way this scene was written made Zach look like a bonehead.
Zach: “You’re going to be my wife and the mother of my child. What else was I supposed to do?”
And this is what infuriates me.
Fatima, Dr. Reed, and multiple people told Zach to think before acting. They warned him about what he could lose if he handled things recklessly. Yet, the writers made Zach look dumb—like he had no self-control.
Then Fatima contradicts herself.
Fatima: “Let the police handle it.”
Wait, what? But earlier in the season, when Angela tried calling the police, Fatima shut that down!
Zach: “No.”
Fatima: “Zach, you’re not even sorry for what you did.”
Zach: “No.”
Fatima: “You could have ruined everything if he had died. Did you want him to die?”
Zach: “No, I didn’t. But I wanted him to know that he should never put his hands on you again.”
Fatima: “Well, I bet he got the message.”
And here’s where Zach drops the line that made me furious.
Zach: “Next time something like this happens, don’t tell me.”
WHAT?!
Fatima: “That’s why I tried not to tell you this time—because I knew you’d act a fool!”
Then she adds:
Fatima: “When you act a fool, it prevents me from loving you the way I want to.”
And Zach responds:
Zach: “Some women love it when their man acts a fool over them.”
Look, women do want protection. But do women want a man to act recklessly and ruin everything? No.
The conversation ends with Fatima telling a story about her mom, Mona. Apparently, Mona got into a shouting match with an old white guy over a parking space. Fatima wanted to call her dad, but Mona stopped her. Why? Because Fatima’s dad was in the military, and if he found out, he might have killed the guy, which would have ruined their lives.
Fatima uses this story to justify why she didn’t want Zach to react violently.
But hold on—this is a terrible comparison. A parking space argument is not the same as Fatima getting attacked and knocked unconscious.
This scene was awful for several reasons:
- Zach’s anger disappeared out of nowhere.
- Fatima contradicted herself (“Let the police handle it” even though she stopped Angela from calling them).
- Zach essentially tells Fatima not to tell him if she gets attacked again.
So what happens next time?
What if Fatima loses her baby because someone attacks her? She’s not supposed to tell Zach?
This scene sent a terrible message. If I were in a relationship, I would never follow this kind of advice. Yes, you should avoid reckless actions, but not at the expense of protecting your loved ones.
And for those saying, “I can’t believe you want to quit the show because Zach didn’t yell at Fatima,” that’s not the issue.
Zach didn’t need to yell. But there needed to be healthy communication. Instead, the writers made it seem like as long as Zach does exactly what Fatima says, their relationship is fine. If he dares to go off script, she leaves him high and dry.
I hated this scene. I hated this episode. And this is one of the main reasons why Season 3 didn’t work for me.
The last two episodes? Chef’s kiss. But everything leading up to them? I couldn’t care less.
