Emmerdale’s iconic Woolpack pub has name changed after 51 years following complaints

EXCLUSIVE: The Woolpack has been the backdrop for many Emmerdale scenes over the years but it has been claimed that owners of the boozer have "gone woke" and "decided to change its name"

Emmerdale’s Woolpack is getting a “woke” revamp with a brand new name and Dales residents won’t be very happy about it.

Eco-loving viewers have been campaigning like crazy to get the iconic pub to rebrand with a more sustainable image. It looks like their efforts have been successful, because bosses have allegedly decided to change its name to “The Hemppack” to raise awareness for sustainable causes.

Charity Dingle (Emma Atkins) and her son Ryan Stocks (James Moore) currently own the Emmerdale pub, which has had several landlords and landladies over its 51 years on screen. But they’re facing a boozer boycott as regulars claim the change is ludicrous – with people claiming it might as well be called “The Wokepack”.

As well as being the backdrop for feuds, fights and deceit, The Woolpack has also met many disasters like the 1993 plane crash when The Woolie was struck by falling debris, which caused an explosion, demolishing the wine bar and the storm of 2003 when the pub was hit by lightning, causing the roof to fall through and a window to collapse. It was also the sight of The Woolpack Siege in 2013.

Fans also will remember that Al Chapman (Michael Wildman) blew up the pub for insurance in 2021. But the latest shake-up to rock the pub is one of the biggest since the boozer first opened its doors.

A source, speaking exclusively to the Daily Star, said owners the of the pub “have gone woke” after some locals “campaigned to get the name changed from The Woolpack to The Hemppack” to be more sustainable “because it hurts the animals to sheer them for wool”.

The drastic changes will feed into a new campaign group, Emmerdale for Animals, in the village. This will see animal activists, including new character Jake Celtis (played by newcomer Bryan Danielson) burst on our screen to spark the ‘woke’ changes, which will include further demands for the pub to serve more vegan options and less meat.

Hemp is a plant in the botanical class of Cannabis sativa cultivars grown specifically for industrial and consumable use.

It can be used to make a wide range of products. Along with bamboo, hemp is among the fastest growing plants on Earth. The news comes after Emmerdale’s Kate Brooks is joining Coronation Street in a major behind-the-scenes shake-up. The TV veteran has been appointed as the new producer for Corrie, taking over from Iain MacLeod following his promotion to executive producer for continuing drama.

Kate’s new role means she will be leaving her job as an Emmerdale producer after eight years. “I’ve had a wonderful time working on Emmerdale and I feel immensely proud to be part of a team that has achieved such great success over the past eight years,” she said in a statement.

It remains to be seen how Chloe feels about the alleged change

“I’ve absolutely loved my time on the show, and I’ve had the privilege of working with such a hugely talented and hard-working bunch of people, who also happen to be the loveliest, too. Both professionally and personally, Emmerdale has given me so much more than I ever could have imagined, and for that I shall be eternally grateful. Thanks Emmerdale, it’s been an absolute pleasure.”

Emmedale airs weekdays on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
