Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise star shares ‘unfortunate’ update about the beloved series
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise star Don Gilet has shared a filming update on season 15.
The BBC crime drama recently returned to screens for its 14th season, marking the first full season for Gilet’s new lead detective DI Mervin Wilson after he made his debut in the Christmas special.
Although season 14 is still airing, Gilet has already confirmed when the cast will return to Guadeloupe to begin filming season 15.
During a recent appearance on ITV’s Lorraine alongside his co-star Shantol Jackson, Gilet was asked: “When are you back to the sunshine then?”
“Unfortunately, it is about April time, end of April,” he confirmed.
When Shantol asked why returning to the sunshine is unfortunate, Gilet laughed: “I just meant for the people I am going to leave.”
The actor also discussed what it was like to take over from Ralf Little, who exited as Detective Inspector Neville Parker last season, and how season 14 differs from previous instalments.
“I think what is different about this one is that there is an arc,” he explained. “There is a personal journey that is going on with the detective because he is originally there to find his mother.
“And he happens to still be on the island, leaving and still be on the island when the latest crime happens, so let’s make use of him.”
When Lorraine noted how DI Mervin is reluctant to be in Saint Marie, the actor said: “He is torn. He is there to find his mother. He doesn’t know what it’s going to be like when he meets her.
“He finds out she has died, then he has to stay there in this place, and he has tried to leave. He has all that struggle going on and he doesn’t like these people because he doesn’t want to be there.”
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise and its spin-off, Beyond Paradise, both air on BBC One and stream on BBC iPlayer.
