EastEnders Grant Mitchell’s new love interest ‘sealed’ as he returns – and it’s not Sharon
EastEnders viewers are convinced that Grant Mitchell could be set for a new romance during his stint back in Walford - but his love interest would come with a huge twist
EastEnders‘ Grant Mitchell, played by Ross Kemp, might be in for a surprising new romance in Walford, as per the speculations of soap fans.
Grant first appeared on the scene back in 1990, arriving in Walford alongside his brother Phil (Steve McFadden), and quickly became one of the show’s most iconic characters.
The tough guy left in 1999, only to return in 2005 and again in 2016. This week, however, saw Grant back in Walford, much to the joy of EastEnders fans.
Several characters have made a comeback in recent months in anticipation of EE’s 40th anniversary, including Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer) and Nigel Bates (Paul Bradley). Now, Grant has also returned.
As fans will remember, his brother Phil is currently grappling with mental health issues, dealing with depression and psychosis. In Thursday’s heart-wrenching episode (February 13), viewers got a peek into his hallucinations, as several significant figures from his past reappeared.
Phil journeyed ‘back in time’ to his teenage years and revisited his childhood home where he grew up with Grant and his sister Samantha (Danniella Westbrook/Kim Medcalf). He also encountered his younger self, and his mother, Peggy Mitchell (Jamie Winstone), reports Plymouth Live.
After an emotional conversation with his mother Peggy, Phil was abruptly brought back to the present day in his home holding a gun. Nigel arrived and suggested that Phil might appreciate seeing a familiar face. Then, Grant appeared standing in the doorway – with Phil relieved to see him.
Grant Mitchell’s epic comeback to Albert Square has been the talk of the town since the news dropped, perfectly timed with EastEnders’ 40th anniversary next week. With Grant striding back into Walford life, eagle-eyed fans have been piecing together his potential new love interest.
Online banter among the viewers hints at an unexpected twist: a blossoming romance between Grant and Elaine Knight (played by Harriet Thorpe) – currently hitched to George Knight (the dashing Colin Salmon). “Thoughts on these two together? ” one sleuthing fan quipped, uploading snaps of the pair for good measure.
The comments section was soon rife with speculation and enthusiasm. “I’d love to see them flirt, because Elaine has more charisma than Sharon could ever hope,” a second fan mused. Another pitched in: “I would be down for this! Love Elaine.” Yet another viewer put in their two pence with: “As long as he doesn’t get back with Sharon! ” It seems everyone’s got an opinion on who Grant should be wooing.
