There was a major hint over Cindy Beale’s attacker on EastEnders on Monday night.

In fact, she appeared to catch them red-handed with the evidence she believed proved the guilt of the person who nearly k.i.l.l.e.d her. Cindy was attacked with a metal shovel and left for dead on Christmas Day.

Since then nine suspects have been in the frame, with other characters also teased to be the culprit. But it all came down to one missing piece of evidence that Cindy needed to find to learn who might have hurt her.

When Cindy was left for dead her locket, containing a photo of her late daughter Lucy Beale, was seemingly stolen. Cindy realised this recently and decided that whoever took the locket must have been the one who attacked her.

Spoilers have teased this to be the case too for weeks, with the significance of the missing locket being key to solving the attacker. So the latest episode of the BBC soap potentially gave away the guilty party, despite them not being shown onscreen.

In a cliffhanger, Cindy burst into the Beales’ home with a gun before spotting someone dangling the locket. She shouted: “You!” before pointing the gun at them, seemingly confronting her attacker who will possibly be unmasked in the next episode.

Other clues in the episode left some fans convinced the guilty person was none other than her own son Peter Beale. Lucy’s twin has been acting strangely ever since his mother’s attack, while he also looked guilty in the latest episode.

From burning evidence to trying to get Cindy to drop the case, in the latest episode he once again urged her to stop accusing his dad Ian Beale. When Cindy brought up the locket, he seemed awkward each time with it clear he is hiding something.

He then completely vanished just as his dad Ian appeared to make a realisation. Peter’s young son Louie told Ian his dad had vanished and had been gone for ages, leaving Ian looking worried.

Then, Cindy burst into the house to spot the mystery person dangling the locket and the episode ended before we saw who it was. Viewers are convinced the person is Peter, with one fan posting: “So it’s obvious Peter’s got the locket right.”

Another said: “It’s got to be Peter right???” A third added: “Peter did it lol,” as a fourth posted: “Was deffo Peter that walloped Cindy over the head.”

However, some fans are convinced there’s a bigger twist on the way, and that Peter will be seen holding the necklace but he won’t be revealed as the attacker. One viewer said: “Peter was the one who took the locket but he didn’t attack Cindy.” A second added: “So now I think it can’t be Peter because what would the big reveal be? I’m moving onto the Cindy Jr did it train.”
