Emmerdale star Amy Nuttall’s sad love life and heartbreak with cheating husband
Amy Nuttall, who played Chloe Atkinson in Emmerdale, is thought to be back with husband, Andrew Buchan, after he reportedly left the mum-of-two to start a new relationship
Amy Nuttall’s heartbreaking love life has more drama than a script from Emmerdale.
The actress, 41, who played Chloe Atkinson in the ITV soap, dated her co-star Ben Freeman for four years before marrying actor Andrew Buchan, 44, on 8 September 2012 after a five year relationship. The showbiz couple seemed to have it all following the birth of their son and daughter. However, in February last year, it was reported the Better star had left his wife for actress Leila Farzad.
Amy, whose mum tragically died in November, four months after a brain tumour diagnosis, was said to be ‘crying every day’ following the devastating news, which sent shockwaves through the soap world. But, sadly this was just the start of her heartbreak…
Heartbroken after husband walks out and moves in with co-star
Amy couldn’t hold back her tears when she was asked about her husband’s rumoured infidelity in February 2023. In news which hit all the headlines, Ben reportedly walked out on his wife to move in with actress Leila Farzad, 42, who was also starring in BBC crime drama, Better. Leila, who is also married, plays high-ranking police character, DI Lou Slack in the show, who had a corrupt relationship with crime leader Col McHugh – played by Andrew.

Broadchurch star Andrew was said to have left the family home over Christmas and moved in with Leila after meeting the glamorous actress while at work. Speaking to MailOnline about the split, Amy fought back tears as she confessed: “I can’t talk about it. I’m sorry, I can’t say anything.”
The Downtown Abbey star suspected Andrew was cheating on her when she found lingerie her husband had bought for another woman, according to reports.
Husband spotted with wedding ring, says he and Amy ‘healing’
Three months after reportedly telling Amy their 11-year marriage was over, Andrew was spotted wearing his wedding ring as he left the family’s Buckinghamshire home. “We are healing,” Andrew allegedly told a pal, who informed The Sun, suggesting the couple were giving things another go.
A source close to Amy, who also appeared in Emmerdale, is also said to have told the publication: “Andrew has come to her and promised to change. They have been working through their problems and are trying to put the love triangle behind them for the sake of their family.”
That potential reunion came weeks after Amy was said to be “crushed and crying every day” after discovering her beloved husband had been unfaithful.
Splits with husband again
Despite giving things another go with her husband, Amy reportedly split from Andrew for a second time in August 2023 after he “failed to stick to the seven rules she set for him in the wake of his ‘affair'” with his co-star.
In July it was claimed the Emmerdale star had set her husband seven strict rules to follow after their reunion in order to rekindle their relationship. The mum-of-two apparently demanded weekly date nights, full access to each other’s phones and absolutely no out of work contact with any co-stars. It was also reported that Andrew would also need to keep in contact via FaceTime when his wife was working away.
However, the couple were said to have called it a day again back in August last year, despite there being no reports of any further infidelity. Speaking about their second split, a source told The Sun: “It took a lot for Amy to give the marriage another chance but she thought it was worth one final roll of the dice. There is no suggestion he has cheated again, but as far as she is concerned this is it. She is obviously gutted but also accepts that their time together has come to an end.”

Reunites with husband for a third time
Despite his alleged infidelity and her public heartbreak, Amy is now said to be back with her Andrew. Speaking to The Sunday Times, the actress addressed their reunion during an interview about her finances.
Discussing her yearly salary, she said: “Generally speaking, in the last financial year, what can I tell you? Below a hundred grand, but I’m married so it all goes into one pot. So it’s not as scary because I can lean on that.” She went on to say of the home the couple share: “I’m the joint owner of our comfortable family home in Buckinghamshire. We owned a smaller house before.”
