Former Emmerdale star turned farmer Kelvin Fletcher has shared a rare insight into his new life as a farmer, admitting that he was “panicked” by one thing. The 41-year-old also issued an update on his marriage with Fletcher’s Family Farm co-star Elizabeth Marsland, admitting “we’re very different”.

Chatting on a recent episode of the Who We Are Now podcast with Izzy and Richard Hammond, the former soap star became “panicked” after receiving an update from his farm.

Whilst reflecting on his new life in farming, Kelvin revealed how the poor weather was a cause for concern, saying: “I’ve just had a message, there’s quite a bit of snow at home and I’ve already been panicking because I moved the cows into a different field and I’ve the got ring feeder out and the sheep, there’s no hay out for them.”

But, much to his relief, he said that a helpful neighbour was on hand to provide his sheep with bails of hay to feed on.

Meanwhile, the former Strictly Come Dancing contestant also opened up on his marriage and gave an insight into his relationship with fellow Fletcher’s Family Farm star, Elizabeth Marsland, whom he met when they were just eight-years-old: “We’re very different, if something’s red, Liz will say it’s blue, but that’s just the way that we are. Maybe that’s why we’re compatible, I don’t know. We’ve certainly got a history together and an understanding.”

However, he quickly retracted his comment, as he humorously admitted: “No actually, like most other married couples you still don’t understand the other person, do you?”

Kelvin landed his first major TV role in 1994 when he appeared in the ITV crime drama Cracker. Following this, he went on to appear in the likes of Chiller and even made a brief appearance on Coronation Street.

But, his career highlight surely came when he landed the role of Emmerdale’s Andy Sugden in 1996. After two decades of playing Andy, he announced that he would be bringing his time on the show to an end in 2016.

Since then he has embarked on a career in farming and has even been the subject of his own ITV series Fletcher’s Family Farm that tracks his and Elizabeth’s pursuits as they maintain the upkeep of their 120-acre Macclesfield farm.
