EastEnders has depicted the heart-wrenching aftermath of Martin Fowler’s (James Bye) sudden d.e.a.t.h, as his loved ones and the entire Walford community grapple with the loss. In Monday’s episode (February 24), Sonia Fowler (Natalie Cassidy) was recuperating in hospital after giving birth to baby Julia, but had to break the devastating news to her and Martin’s daughter Bex (Jasmine Armfield).
Back at home, Sonia received a visit from Linda Carter (Kellie Bright), who encouraged her to stay connected with her newborn despite her grief, leading Sonia to offer Linda and her family a place to stay following The Queen Vic’s destruction.
Elsewhere, Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) was also recovering from injuries sustained in the pub explosion, confessing to Grant Mitchell (Ross Kemp) her despair at the thought of never seeing her ‘brother’ again.
Meanwhile, Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) was shattered by Martin’s d.e.a.t.h, revealing to her mum Jean (Gillian Wright) that they had reconciled and he had proposed before his untimely passing.
Concurrently, Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton) is struggling to cope with the loss of her partner and father to their son Roman, unaware that Martin spent his last moments making amends with ex-wife Stacey.
Ruby Allen was left devastated when she realised no one had come to check on her and Roman, with only Zack Hudson (James Farrar) offering his support. Zack tried to comfort Ruby by saying Martin would have saved her too if she’d been trapped in the pub’s debris, leading to a poignant embrace between the two, reports Plymouth Live.
But now, some EastEnders viewers are speculating that there might be more than friendship brewing between Ruby and Zack after Martin’s tragic demise.
On social media platform X, fans voiced their predictions: “I hope they don’t get Zack and Ruby together #EastEnders #EastEnders40.”
Another fan predicted: “Zack and Ruby will grief sleep together before she leaves. #EastEnders”. A third added: “Oh I bet Ruby and Zack get together.”
