Grieving Stacey tells a huge lie in EastEnders – and it’s about Martin
Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) told a whopping great lie in recent EastEnders scenes, but her motivations came from a good place.
Poor Stacey was left completely devastated last week when she watched Martin Fowler (James Bye) d.i.e after being crushed by a beam during the Queen Vic explosion.
Prior to his d.e.a.t.h, Martin had confessed his love for Stacey, before asking her to marry him – something she was quick to agree to.
However, tragedy struck when the rescue team told her that lifting the beam off Martin would likely k.i.l.l him.
Unfortunately, their prediction was correct, and Martin went into cardiac arrest shortly after the beam was lifted.
The following day, the locals were quick to rally round Stacey and offer their support, as she was forced to break the news to her kids that Martin wasn’t coming home.
Across the Square, Martin’s girlfriend Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton) was equally as devastated, and hurt that people would rather comfort Stacey than her.
In tonight’s episode, Ruby decided she needed answers about the events leading to Martin’s d.e.a.t.h, and headed to the Slaters’ to question Stacey.
Though Stacey clearly didn’t want to talk about it, Ruby was desperate to know if Martin knew he was going to d.i.e.
Stacey revealed that the paramedic had mentioned that it was a risk, but assured her that they hadn’t told Martin.
Emotional, Ruby asked if he d.i.e.d knowing that he was loved, which was where Stacey began to twist the truth.
She insisted that he did, but lied to Ruby that his last thoughts had been about her and his kids.
In reality, Martin had actually been delivering his wedding speech to Stacey, as the pair reflected on what their future would look like together.
However, Stacey knew that this wasn’t what Ruby needed to hear, and instead kept the truth about Martin’s final moments to herself.
With Ruby keen to get funeral preparations underway, will she let Stacey be involved, or could this cause tension between them?
