Fans of Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise were left stunned when a well-known ITV detective unexpectedly appeared in the latest episode of the BBC series.
Tala Gouveia, famed for her portrayal of DCI Lauren McDonald in ITV’s McDonald and Dodds, switched from playing a detective to a suspect, causing quite a stir with her surprise turn on the rival channel. She had previously starred alongside Jason Watkins as DS Dodds before the show was prematurely cancelled.
An ITV spokesperson confirmed the cancellation of the show, noting that the viewership for season four did not meet the necessary targets for its renewal. Meanwhile, Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise enthusiasts witnessed Tala take on a new role as the former partner of murder victim Kelly Herbert.
The intrigue intensified as Mervin Wilson (played by Don Gilet) and his squad investigated the Dᴇᴀᴛʜ of a prolific dater at his villa.
Another viewer eagerly welcomed her back to the screen, saying: “Yay, I like her,” while another tweet pointed out her move between shows: “One of the detectives in McDonald and Dodds, I think she’s on the wrong side of the law.”
Praise for her acting continued with comments like: “She was so good in McDonald and Dodds.”
One viewer proposed: “Is she the actress from McDonald and Dodds? She is great, they should bring her on as a regular character.”
Echoing this sentiment, another added: “She’s brilliant in McDonald and Dodds, I wish there were more of those.”
In the most recent episode, Selwyn Patterson (Don Warrington) was seen getting ready to say goodbye to his team as he prepared for his successor.
Catherine (Elizabeth Bourgine) told the team that Sterling Fox would be arriving the next day. She questioned, “So, has Selwyn told you about what is happening tomorrow?”
Naomi Thomas (Shantol Jackon) responded candidly: “No.”
Catherine revealed, “I had a feeling he hadn’t. The person taking over from him arrives. They are doing the handover, after he will be gone.”
As the episode drew to a close, viewers watched an emotional moment where Selwyn made his last appearance at the station, offering his heartfelt best wishes to his successor.
Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise returns next Friday at 9pm on BBC One.
