BBC’s hit murder mystery Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise left fans emotional as DI Mervin Wilson (played by Don Gilet) was finally able to crack the case plaguing his stay in Saint Marie. The detective, hailing from London, first arrived on the island to find his estranged mother, Dorna Bray (Judith Jacob), who gave him up for adoption at birth. However, he suspects she may have been murdered.

During the penultimate episode, Mervin was able to track his mother’s final tracks and successfully pinpointed who murdered her; thanks to a poignant letter, Dorna had left Mervin’s father, emotionally reflecting on the son they gave up many years ago. The episode left many fans in tears as they took to social media to praise Gilet for his gripping portrayal, as one shared: “I think I covered every emotion possible tonight – what a fantastic episode.” Another added: “As much as I adore all the other detectives, I don’t think anyone could’ve done such a storyline as Don Gilet has!”

Unfortunately for fans, there remains just one more episode of Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise, and sadly, viewers will be forced to wait two weeks due to a BBC scheduling shake-up.

The finale will be delayed by one week to make room for the broadcaster’s fundraising programme, Comic Relief.

Despite the delay, fans will still be able to enjoy a dose of the Dᴇᴀᴛʜ in Paradise universe for Red Nose Day, as the spin-off Beyond Paradise is set to cross over with Lee Mack’s sitcom Not Going Out.

The special will feature Sally Bretton, an integral cast member of both hit shows, alongside her on-screen partners, Lee Mack and Beyond Paradise’s Kris Marshall.

Ahead of the episode, Marshall, who stars as Detective Humphrey Goodman, shared his excitement and said: “It’s always a delight to be able to combine the joys of comedy with the ability to help the many worthwhile charities that Comic Relief supports.”
