ITV Emmerdale viewers relieved as soap teases huge exit and explosive split

Viewers were left in shock when two residents were prepped for heartbreak in the Dales tonight as Jacob Gallagher seemed to receive a call promising a fresh start abroad.

Jacob and Victoria

Jacob and Victoria’s caused a wave of reactions from the get-go but tonight, their relationship has come under threat as the lad could be leaving the village.

During Monday’s (April 15, 2024) trip to the ITV village, Jacob (portrayed by Joe-Warren Plant) and Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) struggled to find time alone as a loved-up and engaged Amy Wyatt was shaking up Keepers Cottage with her wedding preparations with Matty Barton.

Victoria and Jacob made promises of spending the quality time they needed, while Suzy Merton was chasing a shady Kerry Wyatt for a payment after the latter promised the wedding planner – and her daughter Amy – she would fund the nuptials herself thanks to a mysterious windfall.

Jacob and Victoria

Jacob and Victoria’s relationship raised controversy from the first sparks of chemistry – but it may be short-lived

Unfortunately, another twist in the eponymous village has left Jacob and Victoria’s controversial romance hanging in the balance and they could be separated by more than their years of age.

As the instalment drew to a close, the 21-year-old received a call from a mystery person before he dashed away from the commotion at Keepers’ and into another room. While there, the lad responded in amazement as he questioned the caller: “Seriously? And this is the one in Berlin?”

Following the scene, some viewers took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their thoughts and some are keen to see Jacob fly out of the nest, with one of them writing: “Still don’t like Jacob and Victoria together.”

Another jumped in: “Victoria kissing her one time prospective step-son”, followed along by a cringe emoji. “Victoria and Jacob are a bit old for playing doctors and patient’s… so cringe”, another added.

Jacob has made a total of 824 appearances in the Yorkshire-based program since Joe Warren-Plant’s soap debut in 2010, making a first exit in 2015. He returned to the Dales a year later but his second departure could be permanent.

Spoilers for this week have lifted the lid on what could be Jacob’s last storyline as he prepares himself for a six-week placement in Berlin, Germany, which could bring more drama into his romance with Victoria Sugden, who he was once linked to as her stepson.

Upcoming scenes could see Jacob make a tough decision between Victoria and his future while their relationship heads for the rocks but he could be convinced to keep away for good due to his father David Metcalfe (Matthew Wolfenden) leaving the village himself to live in London indefinitely – after finding out about his bond with Victoria, his ex-fiancée.

However, there’s hope for fans to see Jacob again down the line. Last year, while the Dingles were investigating Craig Reed’s murder from a comfy seat at The Woolpack, Mandy Dingle (Lisa Riley) dropped a bombshell when it was revealed Eric Pollard (Chris Chittell) was suffering from Parkinson’s disease. Could he be enough to hold his grandson back from leaving to never look back?
