Beyond Paradise star teases ’emotional toll’ for Martha and Humphrey in series 3
Beyond Paradise is set to return to BBC later this month, with the show's third series promising to be as thrilling and heartbreaking as ever.
Fans of Beyond Paradise can rejoice as DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall), and his team from Shipton Abbott make their eagerly awaited return. The beloved BBC series gears up for its third season, set to premiere at the end of March, loaded with mystery, wit, and tender moments.
Humphrey and his partner Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton), find their relationship tested amidst new perplexing cases. As they embark on their fostering journey, audiences will watch them welcome a nine-year-old child named Rosie into their lives, who presents unexpected challenges.
Kris Marshall recently opened up about the upcoming season and how his character copes when Martha becomes embroiled in one of his investigations.
He explains: “Humphrey doesn’t take it well. In a small town, it’s inevitable that people close to him will get caught up in cases.”
The actor also describes Humphrey’s struggle, adding: “Martha is very busy, and Humphrey struggles with the emotional toll it takes to see someone he loves potentially involved in something criminal. It adds extra complications to an already challenging investigation.”
On top of these dilemmas, the show introduces further intrigue with the reappearance of Martha’s former love interest, Archie, played by Jamie Bamber.
Although Kris Marshall’s character, Humphrey, doesn’t seem fazed by Archie’s presence in Shipton Abbott, reports the Express.
Kris commented on their dynamic, saying: “Humphrey doesn’t feel threatened by Archie’s return.”
He attributed this to Humphrey’s confidence, emotional strength, and security in his relationship with Martha, explaining: “He’s always been a confident and emotionally strong person, and he’s very secure in his relationship with Martha.”
Kris also noted that Humphrey’s past issues stemmed from Archie working closely with Martha, but this time, he’s more bemused than concerned, accepting of the situation, and not losing sleep over it.
As for working with Jamie Bamber, who plays Archie, Kris had high praise, calling the 51-year-old actor ‘fantastic’ and appreciating the opportunity to work alongside someone of similar age and experience.
He said: “Working with Jamie is fantastic. It’s nice to have another actor of a similar age and experience on set, especially since we have both been in the industry since the 90s.
“While we didn’t know each other well back then, we have a lot of mutual friends, and it’s great to have someone around who shares that history.
“Jamie is a seasoned actor and a lovely person who brings a lot of fun to the set. We get along really well and it’s always a pleasure working with him.”
Beyond Paradise will air on Friday March 28th on BBC One from 8pm.
