Emmerdale: ‘work out’ why John was really ‘targeting’ Ella as secret exposed

Emmerdale fans are convinced they’ve figured out why John Sugden has really been ‘targeting’ Ella Forster on the ITV soap.

Only recently, Ella was accused of spiking love rival Chas Dingle during the latter’s engagement party to Ella’s ex Liam Cavanagh. Ella insisted she was innocent but Chas and Liam refused to believe her.

Things escalated when Chas and Liam appeared to be inundated with calls and messages from Ella, their wedding was mysteriously cancelled and a brick was even thrown at the pub’s window.

After holding Mandy Dingle hostage in order to talk to Liam, to prove her innocence, Ella ended up fleeing the scene with Liam in hot pursuit.

After a confrontation in the woods, Ella shoved Liam, causing him to fall and strike his head. After thinking she had k.i.l.l.e.d him and left distraught, Liam thankfully regained consciousness.

The duo had a heart-to-heart, where Liam insisted Ella needed help and as she was arrested, Ella insisted she didn’t spike Chas and was innocent.

The episode ended with Ella in a prison cell as Chas and Liam attempted to get their life back on track.

It was revealed over the weekend that viewers will finally see the real John and the secrets and lies that surround him in upcoming scenes next week.

In a series of flashback scenes, soap watchers will learn more about the man who appears to be a supportive and considerate part of village life.

Soap watchers think that John is behind all the recent stunts and has been targeting Ella. Taking to social media, viewers also think they know why.

One person said: “I think Ella k.i.l.l.e.d one of Johns relatives and he now wants her to go to prison again”, a different account put: “I think he is ellas secret brother” while another added: “Who thinks Ella’s secret brother is John in #Emmerdale and they are working together.”

It comes as Emmerdale producer, Laura Shaw, teased of the new storyline: “Since enigmatic and inscrutable John Sugden arrived on our screens last summer, he’s managed to hide some pretty big secrets from his family and friends.

“As his clandestine acts are revealed, the audience has an opportunity to really get inside John’s mind and to finally understand exactly what this mysterious character is really about.”

Emmerdale airs every weekday at 19.30pm on ITV1, ITV X, STV and STV Player with an hour-long episode on Thursdays.
