EastEnders star Lacey Turner has revealed the dramatic reaction her castmates had when she shared the news of her pregnancy with them. The actress, who is known for playing Stacey Slater, opened up about the moment she told co-stars her big news on an episode of Giovanna Fletcher’s podcast, Happy Mum Happy Baby.

During her conversation with Giovanna, Lacey thought back to a particularly exhausting day on set where she was filming intense courtroom scenes. She told the actress: “I was literally falling asleep filming the court scenes for Dinos. My head was on the table. The director must have thought, ‘What has got into her?’ because I’m not someone who relaxes – I’m always up and about.”

She explained that her female co-stars were the ones who picked up on how fatigued she was. She added: “I was in a room full of men who had no idea what was going on.

“But then I was filming with the six women, you know, The Six. We were in the Winnebago, and they were like, ‘Oh, how are you feeling?’. And I was like, ‘Well, I’m actually pregnant’. And they all literally fell to their knees.”

The moment was particularly emotional for Lacey because those cast members were the first people she had told about her pregnancy. The soap star admitted that she told them because she knew she “wasn’t going to get away with” how sleepy she was on set.

She shared: “I thought, they must be thinking, ‘What is she doing? Why does she keep falling asleep everywhere?’ Normally, you can pop up to your dressing room, but I didn’t have a dressing room to hide. I had nowhere to hide. I was just stuck in the Winnebago with everyone looking at me.”

Lacey welcomed her third child with husband Matt Kay into the world on January 17. The couple, who got married in 2017, are already parents to five-year-old Dusty and three-year-old Trilby.

She announced the birth by sharing a sweet snap of her two little kids giving the baby girl a kiss on the forehead. The actress only shared the news of her pregnancy with the public in September, asking followers: “Aren’t we lucky?”

Fans were impressed to see her already return to work with an incredible performance just five weeks postpartum, as EastEnders celebrated their 40th anniversary with a live episode. Viewers were left in floods of tears as Stacey reacted to her ex husband Martin Fowler dying in the collapsed Queen Vic after clearing a path through the rubble to save her life.

In his final scenes, Martin and Stacey rekindled their spark, and he asked his old flame to marry him once they made it out of the pub. Sadly, he was unaware that paramedics had warned Stacey he would die of crushed syndrome once they lifted the big metal beam that was crushing him off his legs.

Lacey’s husband Matt praised her for the performance, saying: “I am absolutely bursting with pride for my wife and the incredible job she did at work this evening. Her dedication and hard work shone through as she tackled an extremely tough challenge with grace and determination, especially considering she only just gave birth five weeks ago.”
