EastEnders star Shona McGarty back in the studio for ‘special days’
Former EastEnders star Shona McGarty has shared a behind the scenes snap from a recording studio as she takes to the mic once again.
The actress, 33, is best known as Whitney Dean in the BBC soap, a role she played between 2008 and 2024.
One of her first major storylines saw her suffer a horrific ordeal when she was sexually abused by stepfather Tony.
Later down the line, she faced a terrifying stalking ordeal, went on trial for m.u.r.d.e.r, and tragically lost her baby, Peach.
Her exit plot saw her leave Albert Square after discovering partner Zack Hudson’s (James Farrar) infidelity with best friend Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa).
She cut ties with him and maternal figure Bianca Jackson (Patsy Palmer), after realising that she had known about the fling and hadn’t told her.
Away from the Walford drama, Shona is keen vocalist and has released a number of tracks for charities Great Ormand Street Hospital and Mind.
She was also seen performing in character as Whitney on a number of occasions.
Shona has now taken to Instagram to reveal she is recording new music.
Alongside of a photo and video of her singing into a microphone and wearing headphones around her head, she told her 273,000 followers: ‘The two most special days in the studio with @mrsteveanderson laying down a couple of tracks!
‘It felt so good getting back behind the mic and dusting off the ol’vocals again.
‘Excited to share with you what we created…all in due time.’
Steve is a producer and musical director who has worked with Kylie Minogue, Westlife and Steps.
Shona’s former co-star Diane Parish, who plays Denise Fox, commented: ‘Can’t wait to hear.’
Ben Mitchell actor Harry Reid added: ‘The soul angel is back…and her 20 deck.’
Shona recently reprised her Whitney role for an iconic EastEnders-themed cabaret show in London.
With the venue transformed into the Queen Vic, some of the UK’s best drag and cabaret talent gave their interpretations of some of the soap’s most iconic storylines and scandals.
Legendary characters like Sharon Watts, Vanessa Gold, Pat Butcher and even the Queen Vic bust were brought to life on stage, with audience members told pre-show to ‘get ready for high-drama, big earrings, and duff-duff moments galore’.
The drag and cabaret artists were joined by Shona for a special one-night-only performance.
